What scaler does /vr/ use?
Will you buy any of the current gen scalers (retrochink 5x, OSSC pro etc)?

Waiting on a retrotinkx5 now, I got a feeling an rtx9 is gonna be soon since most modern TVs have the lowest lag when fed a 4k video

Currently, nothing. My TV handles the signals really well so lag isn't really a problem for me. But I want a newer, bigger TV so I'll probably get a retrotink at some point. But now there are so many different retrotink versions that I legitimately don't know which one to get.

Unless you are using a CRT then there is no reason to even use a retro console. Every retro console should be buried in the same pit as the last CRT.

I use a framemeister. When the 5x is more consistently in stock, I'll sell it and buy that instead.

I have my XRGBmini still. A OSSC and a 5x. If I am not on a CRT I am using my OLEDs and they benefit immensely from a decent scaler or similar.

Also several of my CRTs need at minimum a line doubler to work. My 29inch simulation screens are HVRGB only so I scale games to 480p or 1024x768 (cut back a bit to be 3x of 240p) on them.

Here's how I'm getting 3x scaled composite video on my old 720p TV:

Composite video into RetroTink2X Pro in passthrough mode to HMDI to component converter to the YPbPr input of an OSSC to the hdmi input of a Framemeister.

Definitely looking forward to upgrading and drastically simplifying my setup when I can get a new scaler without ridiculous shipping costs.

Got the 5X-Pro and updated the firmware, PC Engine Duo-R via RGB Scart looks goddamn amazing with it, also been using it for Saturn and my Japanese PS1 since I can use my PS3 for U.S. PS1 games.

It's for NES/famicom. The reason I don't just plug it directly into the Framemeister is because when I do, I get wavy interference on solid colors and, because NES games have lots of solid colors it looks terrible.
Not sure if the composite input on my Framemeister is messed up or if it's that bad for everyone.
My old 720p TV doesn't like the OSSC, so I plug it into the Framemeister just to take advantage of its framebuffer.
It really is a retarded setup, but it works and I can get perfect scanlines.
Just barely makes composite acceptable. I do want an NESRGB, but that would also mean investing in a desoldering tool.

GBS control. Like it, but I found it finicky when it comes to accepting Dreamcast VGA, and I’ll probably have to get a Retrotink RBG2COMP if I ever want to upgrade to SCART.
Still, happy enough with it. Probably will upgrade to a R5X for a more plug and play solution over the years.

It really doesn't look that bad with my setup.

Good enough that I've played through tons of games this way (actually I was using a GBS control before).

Retrotink 2X-M, the one that accepts 480p. I just use it for GameCube/Wii games with a nice set of component cables. Very enjoyable on my 4K tv with the wavebird. Been thinking of getting a second wavebird just for a backup but they're getting pretty pricey these days.

Oh and I'll add that it's not actually an NES, but a Twin Famicom. Maybe that's part of the reason it's bearable.

I have a 2X-Mini that i picked up just for when friends come over and want to play something like Mario Party on an older console, just so we dont have to huddle around the whiny ass pvm
but the 5X Pro looks like a really impressive one-and-done option
