Need some help from you /vr/etards remembering an old game from when I was a kid.
RPG for NES (maybe?) There’s a part in this game where you're wandering around on a map (top down kinda like FF old school games) and you come across a circus or carnival. Some
dude wants to feed you a bunch a food at the carnival and if you eat it all you fall asleep. You wake up trapped and there dude is like, “We’re
cannibals are we’re going to eat you!” or something (being really little my mind was blown by the RP element of the game) I ate too much and I was too fat to sneak out of a hole in the cage and I could never get any
farther…
Does anyone know?

Pretty sure you're thinking of Megaman Network Transmission for the Gamecube.

Illusion of Gaia has a cannibal scene in Angor Wat, but it's not a circus or carnival.

Secret of Mana also has a part where you can get put in a pot, but it's just a cutscene iirc.

those are the only two nintendo games I know of that have cannibalism scenes.

thanks bro. I know it's not Secret of Mana cause I've played that game like 30 times lol. the goblins put the girl in a cauldron to cook her but you rescue her.

not sure if it's IoG yet, but i'm looking into it. here's a retro meme for your troubles.

Any other details you can remember about the game? What kind of setting did it have? Old-timey vs. modern, magical vs. non-magical, furry characters vs. none of those, etc.? What were the battles, were they real-time or turn-based? Did you control a party of characters? People are suggesting SNES games, could it have been for SNES?

>> No.8029704

OP you need to provide closure.

Sorry for the delayed response, work has been a bit crazy the last 2 days.

So the graphics were akin to the look of the first NES Zelda... very blocky but I remember the colors being more saturated than Zelda. I'm like 95% sure it was an NES game not a SNES game. The Circus was represented by an icon of a tent but when you walked up to it, you entered a “town”-like setting but with tents and other characters…like you do with the FF games. I would say it was a funny game, not leaning heavy towards any time period, it felt fantastical, and I think it was a turn-based fighting system… (though not strategy-turn-based)... At that point in the game I think I was controlling two characters but I could be wrong and maybe I was in the cage with another
NPC. I THINK I remember taking a something that helped my health during battle.

I realize this is pretty vague and not especially helpful. In my defense this was literally over 30 years ago lol

Was it certainly on either NES or SNES? Or did you have access to some other gaming platform at that time?

I think Little Ninja Brothers has some comical elements, fantastical elements, and sections in which you walk around in an overhead view. I only played that once though so I don't clearly remember it. Your game probably isn't that I guess.

The other thing I think of is of course Mother/Earthbound. But you wouldn't have played that on an NES thirty years ago, and although Earthbound on SNES has some kind of evil carnival thing in it, I don't think it has the cannibals? I forget. Anyway probably somebody would have recognized it already if it were Earthbound?

Following up with a little more investigation: I think it actually is Little Ninja Brothers! Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-7BD0STfm4#t=9m40s (go to 9:40 or so if it didn't take you there automatically)

I think that escaping from the prison for fatties is the first step in the first real quest in the game and there doesn't appear to be much of a puzzle to it. So I guess you were indeed very young.

You can credit my childhood fondness toward Kung Fu Heroes, the game that Little Ninja Brothers is somehow a sequel to. It's a simple arcadey action game with no overworld or anything - in fact there isn't even any screen scrolling. But it somehow has enough dopey charm and odd little depths and secrets that I like it a lot even though it's very repetitive and kind of stupid.

While searching just now I found out it was originally an arcade game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWkePWyJRwo
Also I guess there are a whole crapload of these things, including other RPGs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Chinese
It's similar to the Goemon games I guess, but with random crap stuffed in from Chinese culture rather than from Japanese culture? I dunno.

Anyway I only ever tried Little Ninja Brothers on an emulator (as an adult - I didn't ever hear of it as a kid, not even through Nintendo Power, and I've never seen a physical copy) because it was a sequel to Kung Fu Heroes. (Although I didn't finish it because it seemed like too much hassle to go through all the grinding or whatever you do in it. I probably would have liked it a lot as a kid though.)

Dude you are amazing.
Kung Fu Heroes is another game that I couldn't remember playing as a kid and I've tried multiple times throughout the years to find it, with no success obviously, and at this point I'd honestly just given up.

My god I've been watching a let's play while drinking my coffee this morning. Between LNB and KFH pic related is me right now. I loved this game as a kid.

I wish I could thank you properly lol I feel like I want to hug you
God bless your fondness for dopey, charming games anon.
