do you own any bootlegs?

>> No.8026937

>>8026927
Yeah, I have a bootleg copy of Tetris DS. Visually, it's barely noticeable. I only realized it years later when I noticed my 3DS didn't recognize the cart when it detected all my other DS games just fine.

>> No.8027063

I heard you can flash bootleg GBA carts with other games, is this true?

>> No.8027117

I'd rather take a chance and buy a bootleg of my remaining pokemon games i'm missing desu. The prices on these mediocre games is just too high.

No. I call them repros so I can pretend they're worth 10x as much

You can flash any cartridge if you have a flasher.

I've been wanting to get one so I can patch translations onto my Japanese games.

Fuck off nigger, my Japanese copy of Bomberman GB 3 will always have value because it comes in a unique package and the translation would only add to its value if I ever sold it 10 years from now as people have stopped selling the fancarts for it.

OP, we would like to have a word.

All my DS games are real but on the subject I do have one of those 3DS copies with the circle in the bottom right that says U.A.E. - Saudi Arabia/Malaysia - Singapore/Official Product. Only noticed it the other day and got it straight from Amazon. On inspection the font on the back looks poor and says Made in Japan in a different spot than all my other 3DS games. But I would think it wouldn’t play on my ummodified 3DS. I went online and noticed they have these copies for pretty much every game imaginable. What’s the deal? Are they bootlegs?

>> No.8027782

>>8026937
Is this a sure fire 100% way to check if a game is fake, or do boots exist now that can trick the 3ds?

I'm pretty sure UAE is just the same as NTSC-U for region locking purposes. I don't think they're bootlegs.

At some point people just realized that there's a whole trove of NTSC copies of games over in the middle east and just started selling them as regular NTSC copies on ebay and amazon any shit. I only have one UAE game, I think it's pokemon B2 or W2, I know it's legit and it works fine.

With Pokemon it can be hit or miss because a lot of the appeal is transferring Pokemon when you're done and a lot of KOs won't be detected when trying to transfer. You can usually trade to a legit game and then transfer, though.

Honestly don't do that, just invest in a 3DS (any model) and install TWiLightMenu, shit runs all the important DS games with homebrew/patches and lets you backup your own carts. Also as an added bonus you even get natively ran GBA games. Beats trusting some overseas product that may or may not work.

3ds was "tricked" day one by many bootlegs. In some cases you needed to open something like an r4i card and cut a trace. But literally it was more rare your bootleg DIDN'T work than did.

I have a copy of Sonic Jam 6 that I got from a local retro games shop couple years ago. Some guy came in and sold a ton of Sega stuff, one of them being Sonic Jam 6. Had to beg the guy at the counter to let me buy it. He was hesitant because it was a bootleg.

It's a shit game but I cherish it just for how weird it is.

All mine are originals. But, I never paid any ridiculous prices because I just waited patiently and got great deals on them.

Learned a lot about spotting fake carts for most systems along the way too.
One time in a cash converter type store I saw a fake copy of platinum they were trying to sell for a ridiculous price.
A few weeks later was in there again and some woman was about to buy it for her kids but I told her not to bother. Store banned me and told me never to come back, kek.

I have a few Bit Corp. and Taiwan Atari 2600 titles in my collection. Half of them are variations of Bobby is Going Home and there's a multicart or two as well.
As far as repros, I have no issue with them though I think they should have some sort of fine print or detail that can be used to distinguish it as a copy from the original. Something simple and non-intrusive, such as "Repro" in small text appended to the copyright info would be ideal.

>> No.8031241

>>8030797
Yeah sadly even the new variations of the system dont have enough power to emulate GBA games but VC injects play the games natively. Rumor was that is the reason Nintendo never sold GBA games digitally for the system.

DS flashcarts are basically perfect at this point, and extremely cheap. nds-bootstrap still has some compatibility issues as well.
Also GBARunner2 isn't native. If you want to run GBA games natively on a 3DS use open_agb_firm instead.
