This is Bushido Blade, a game that was famous at the time for being "realistic" aka limb based damage system where you can easily die in one hit. The game let you run around a huge arena freely and featured beautiful graphics. It was made by Squaresoft during the height of their power. The deterioration of Squaresoft into what it has now become is one of my grievances towards God.

I think the gameplay was too quick for people to really explore it's depths. It's actually a very good game (as was literally every release by SS in that time). Thanks for reading my blog.

According to your logic Squaresof deteriorated already in 98 as Bushido Blade 2 was unfiltered shit.

Sorry, but what do you mean by "unfiltered"?

That was a dark time for Square; unfinished games and hideous polygons.

yeah although these was kind of a meme. The moment you play it you realize it's more like a fencing game but where you get a death animations for each point.

One of my favorite games to play against friends. The controller gets passed around quickly, not a lot of waiting. You can kill your friends 50 times in under 10 minutes.

Not him, but Bushido Blade 2 was definitely a disappointment. It's like they didn't quite get what made the first game so appealing or else they were told streamline it in hopes of reaching a wider audience.

Cigarettes used to come filtered or unfiltered. The unfiltered cigs were really strong and killed people way harder so they're pretty much non-existent.

So when he says it's unfiltered shit, he means it is really fucking awful.

Do not strike you enemy when they are down.
Do not strike them from behind.
Do not strike them when climbing.
Do not throw mud, dirt, or snow.
Be sure to face them in honorable 1v1 combat. No tricks or gimmicks.

I don't know if there's a technical reason for it but splitting the screen probably wouldn't have been great compared to 2 full screens. It was already a visual challenge without half of the width/height. If they could have done it they should have though, at least as an option.

At the time, fighting games all had health bars. There weren't any other "Kendo games" at least not that anyone had played before. So yeah I was expecting health bars but I wasn't a fucking smoothbrain who thinks that it's not "actual gameplay" if it doesn't have them, like this filtered dumbass:
>>8017302
There's plenty of give and take to begin with and more importantly you can play multiple rounds in a row. When I'd play with my brother we'd always just play "first one to 10 wins" or something like that. It's just that you keep track in points instead of a health bar.

> What, weird, really? How does that work?
That would be the instant reaction, because it was an unfamiliar concept for a fighting game. It was something they'd never seen before so didn't know what to expect. It's not reasonable to call something "narrow-minded" when the supposed "narrow-mindedness" is merely the reasonable and highly conditioned expectation based on ten years of cultural experience with health-bar based fighting games and zero years of experience with fencing-like games.
