I keep hearing across the internets that the Saturn was Sega's worst console and doomed them, but is there any truth to that? I started exploring its library and can't find much really worth playing -- mostly it's just worse multiplats, inaccurate arcade ports, and stuff that you can't read, so maybe there is. What's /vr/'s take on the Sega Saturn?

Of the big main known Sega consoles? It's certainly not worse than Master System, and debatable I think it's on par with Dreamcast at least, but not better than Mega Drive. Personally it's my 2nd favorite.

What doomed Sega wasn't the Saturn, nor the 32x, nor the SOJ vs SOA fables. It's all more simple than that: Playstation.

It usually had the better versions of 2D stuff like Mega Man X4, Mega Man 8, EWJ2... and stuff like Tomb Raider or RE actually had some nice stuff that may make them more preferable to the PS1 versions. So it all depends on the game, definitely had some upper hand in some stuff.

Define "inaccurate", Saturn is usually lauded for having the better arcade ports while PS1 were severely more cut versions.

I doubt a "/vr/ consensus" matters much in 2021, this board was shattered, all the old userbase left or stopped posting as much.
But yeah there is that one schizo who keeps spamming Bernie in Saturn threads, so there's that I guess? Saturn triggers a schizophrenic person on /vr/. Neat.
