Why does this board almost never have pinball threads? Do sticker collectors not enjoy pinball?

we have them pretty frequently, there doesn't need to be one on the board at all times. That's how you generate cancerous communities with incestuous discords.

My first pinball video games were Epic Pinball and Sonic Spinball. Space Cadet was much less appealing than Epic.
I've been playing some more recent ones again on PC and phone, after going to some arcades for the first time since 2019. Friends think I'm a wizard just because I can destroy one or two castles.

Simply didn't grow up with it is all. Couldn't find them in public, family friendly places when I was a child, only seedy pubs and gambling halls. Same went for arcade cabinets actually because some dickhead in the federal government in the late '70s or so decided that putting a coin into a gaming machine is the same as gambling and therefore needs to be limited to adults.

Pinball tables are not easy to coomlect, so all there is to do is actually play the game, and "'retro' 'gamers'" hate doing that, and it also requires going somewhere, which most don't like to do.

Maybe if you shilled the standalone digitals, which coomlectors can afford, they'd be interested.

They happen on occasion, but pinball isn't that widely accessible these days, so I guess people aren't as exposed to it or interested in it (and then you have fag countries like mine, where they're borderline banned). There is emulation of pinball, but I don't think there's a lot of awareness of it. It's a shame, but I think a greater interest in it isn't out of the question, a lot of people remember Space Cadet Pinball pretty fondly.

Possibly old carnival/arcade stuff like airhockey and what not could be tucked into a pinball thread like a kind of Electromechanical Game General, though I'm not sure it could keep itself sustained regularly. Come to think of it though, on some boards you do have some generals which just kind of show up occasionally, and usually they're far nicer than the ones which beat themselves to death.

>>7987607
>That's how you generate cancerous communities with incestuous discords.
On fast boards like /vg/, maybe, where people post just for the sake of posting, not because they have anything left to talk about.

all of the shots you need to make (both ramps, piano, lock, right orbit) are pretty safe. the camera makes a great bail-out shot. as long as you aren't missing your shots, you aren't in a lot of danger. on the other hand, the bottom lanes are shallow and slope outwards, making it very easy to lose a ball that goes towards an outlane, and the bumpers are more often than not responsible for that behavior. try to avoid them

>> No.7988124

also yeah the audience for pinball is a lot smaller than the audience for nu-/vr/ games. it takes a while for people to find these threads and reply; threads in the months before the rules change would usually survive until the 2-week bump limit because /vr/ was dead as shit but they get pushed off by new threads pretty frequently these days. enjoy them if you see them

mandalorian is pretty simple rules-wise which makes it pretty closely comparable to a 90's williams game ironically, except it still has the patented modern stern "stack everything in the game or else you don't get any points" so it kind of sucks. shoot center ramp repeatedly to start multiballs, shoot l+r ramps to light missions at the scoop, shoot left ramp to light mini playfield encounters. do all 3 enough times to complete the inserts in the middle of the playfield for wizard modes. orange (hunter?) targets give you money that you can spend on dumb shit at the foundry. playfield multipliers come from completing a hunt, the boba fett targets, and scope shot (targets next to right ramp). that's basically it. it's a better effort than stranger things was so good going brian eddy you're not as washed up as previously thought

A modern pinball machine has many ideas in it. An EM only has one or sometimes two. Often times an EM is bad because the idea is bad, but if the idea is good, then the single-mindedness of the game can be appealing.
Sometimes the idea behind an EM is something that probably wouldn’t be found in a modern game, because it’s an idea that doesn’t leave room for other ideas. For instance, the big kick out holes on Sing Along/Melody.

In some cases, like El Dorado, the simple idea leads to a complex and sophisticated variety of possibilities.

But yeah, there are a lot of EMs with mediocre gameplay out there.

Yeah, they made 108 units or so.
The story:
They made Whoa Nellie: Big Juicy Melons, which was a modern game with an EM layout. The problem is that the layout is a bad EM design, not a good EM design. And for some reason it's a small-flipper EM. And puritans clucked their tongues at the risque theme.
Then they remade it as Pabst Blue Ribbon: Can Crusher. Maybe because Woah Nellie didn't sell enough and they had leftover parts. PBR had music from a band called Red Fang. Then they remade it as Primus. It has good art, but the layout is still bad.

I had an electromechanical bingo game; pinball cabinet, 25 hole playfield, a bingo card in the top cabinet ... what made it special were the four buttons that each rotated one of the four 2x2 corners of the bingo card.

Oh! And that with the top cabinet back door open the front legs came off the floor - the whole back door was covered in stepper wheels.

Fun factor? Close to zero. Music? None. Oddness factor 100.

Got it as a gift from a neighbour who moved away, gave it to a neighbour when I moved away. Because the damn thing was insanely heavy and impossible to transport as the top cabinet did not come off.

The chance to win a free game (you know, on the two last score digits) was an issue in some countries. The opportunity to get free games for reaching a highscore or making some combo, meaning you could win multiple free games per game, also something of an issue in some places. The argument that pinball is a game of SKILL, not GAMBLING, was usually ignored.

Ergo; BAN!

Uhm ... memories.)

In the Netherlands the places that had pinball tables and videogames and slots on the other side suddenly all went slots only :( the big pinball drought began and never ended.

See the one thing, the BIG thing that you're forgetting, or unaware of, was that there were places that bought back the free games earned by the player. And some older EM games you could really get the free games cranking over once you hit a certain score, making back your investment up to tenfold if you were good enough. So it may be a game of skill, but one that rewards the player with money = gambling.
But you know that most of those pinball bans from the 1930s and 1940s no one gave a shit about (at least in the US anyway) after a while. There was a town in bumfuck Indiana that only lifted its ban on pinball in 2016, I doubt that the pigs were out checking the bars and arcades for illegal pinball at any time when there's real crooks to arrest and minorities to beat the shit out of.

Gambling is the wagering something of value on an event with an uncertain outcome with the intent of winning something of value. Gambling thus requires three elements to be present: consideration, risk, and a prize.

If you have the prospect of winning a prize with a pinball machine (the operator buying back free games) then it is technically gambling. As it was seen by many authorities in the last century.
Those "bingo machines" are just a type of pinball machine. Early pinball tables didn't have flippers.

>Pinball Arcade
Now a piracy exclusive. If you want to play something that's not on Pinball FX3 it's worth it, but the physics aren't as good.
>Visual Pinball
Lots of tables but they're amateur made and the program can be pure autism to set up. VPX is the only version worth playing, physics seem better than Pinball Arcade. Download the full installer from the forum, it will set everything up.
It will automatically install and activate pinmame, run the setup program and set the roms folder path to your full set of mame roms. All those garbage roms you can't play in mame now have a purpose. It's too hard to find a specific pinmame roms set, this works fine.
The forums are autistic shit that limit downloads so avoid them if you can. You can bunch of tables on archive here:
https://archive.org/details/Visual_Pinball_2020-06-20
Probably only the VPX tables are worth playing. If you want to see some real shit take a look at the visual pinball 1 tables. You'll see why people might have tried this program a long time ago to emulate with pinmame, then gave up on it because it was so shitty.
