The use Phillips tubes which weren't bad, but not as good as JVC or Toshiba when it came to shadowmask sets. The presentation on them is god tier though. If you want a CRT with fancy chassis, then definitely grab a B&O.

Philips literally had ranges of tubes in terms of quality. People always assume Philips = shit because they also provided lower quality model to third-world brands which went for "smallest price, no regard to the quality" business model.

If you think the Philips tubes are identical to the ones found in some Brandt/Telefunken sets, you're fooling yourself really hard.

Also Loewe also was dependant of Philips and the like. I only have had experience with one Loewe TV and honestly it was not great.

I don't remember the exact model. Was a Lowe Planus, light grey ("typical cheap plastic color"), yet was sold as high end product. Possibly not a bad product but not good either, with too much fancy digital processing, some of which were likely not off'able which made the picture looks bad on anything other than broadcast TV.

Anyway, the Calida 5072 uses a Philips tube, which proves my point that Philips tube can be quite excellent. What matters is not exactly the tube, but the chassis driving it.

Not sure about that exact one but in general, yes. And if you get the right system they can be incredibly useful for retro gaming. I had one with motorized curtains that pulled to the sides like in a cinema. That was a stupid gimmick, but the TV itself was excellent. Good quality, multi system, SCART. But what was really great was the tuner/switch/etc under the TV. This had something like 6-8 SCART ports. So you were basically getting a SCART switch that would cost you $200+ separately. I paid $300 for the whole system which also included some nice 5.1 pillar speakers.

Local B&O collector was selling it on for very little. Couldn't understand why I wanted it so he let it go for the price of a few packs of beer. It's not in perfect condition, the geometry is a touch wonky and the adjustments on these sets are a total nightmare. You find a lot of these sets in the UK and Europe but the price is going up as people realise how good they are.
>>8016174
This is extremely helpful, thanks. Will return tomorrow with some better pics.

Brief B&O buyer guide:
The MExxxx or MSxxxx use the same tubes as their pricier MXxxxx cousins usually. The compromise is in connections and sometimes speakers but they all have RGB SCART to my knowledge.
Software version (SWx.x) matters. SW3.1 tubes and later use high end Philips tubes which are really excellent, lower versions it's really a crapshoot and the quality varies loads. If you see people complaining about quality online this is exactly why.
As another anon put, these things are finnicky beasts and prone to issues. Geometry is usually out of whack and depending on the SW version may or may not be fixable. I think some of them have adjustable white balance through the menu but other than that you're on your own.
There are two sizes, 20" and 26". The MX4000 and equivalent are 20" whilst the MX6000, MX7000 and MX8000 are all 26". Best model they made is the MX8000, which has digital processing that can be turned off. It has the best tube and audio but it's really pretty incremental between that and the earlier tubes. Newer = more adjustable.
