Welcome to The Garage, a thread where fans of racing vidya can discuss their favourite arcade, sim, kart, and any other kinds of racing games. If you’re looking for something new to play or are new to the genre ask other Anons for recommendations and remember to gear up and have fun.

The previous thread was a start and park: >>7967172

Remember to bump, /vr/ has been faster as of late and threads get archived much quicker now. Don't be shy: ask questions, share experiences! If anyone has ideas for community events speak up!

The physics aren't that bad - the real issue is the default tuning of each car is burger landboat tuning and as such the vehicles have enough body roll to be measured in nautical terms and a suspension so soft an airbed might as well be solid concrete in comparison. Once you tune the handling the game is a lot more interesting.

2004 and 2005 are the usual go to games. 04 has a career mode which is focused on being a driver owner, while 2005 focuses more on climbing up the nascar ladder from modifieds, trucks, xfinity/busch to cup series.

There's also dirt to daytona which is worth a look. career mode is similar to 2005 except it's more focused on single car operation and upgrading your car to be competitive. It does have a lot of odd glitches though. but it's got some cool cheat codes and heat challenges.

If your definition of "bike" also includes bicycles, I will always recommend Downhill Domination. For motocross bikes, I suggest Rainbow Studios' Motocross Madness 1&2 and MX vs. ATV series, though I've heard you may want to avoid their newer titles and that Reflex was their last good one. If you want to be confined to paved roads with a tad bit of realism, you could try Tourist Trophy, which is a street and track racing spinoff of Gran Turismo. I don't really know enough about other retro games with prominent use of motorcycles, though the Motorstorm series I also would always recommend has an entry with a PS2 port if that counts.

I'm close to finally beating Burnout 3 for the first time (I've finished the race series in the past but never the entire Crash tour).

Crash Mode gets way too long and way too repetitive. By the end you're just aiming for the 4x multiplier all the time and not really focusing on the best way to crash. I'm not a huge fan of the mode in general but Burnout 3's Crash Mode is probably the worst one.

I don't know the history behind the development of RR4, but it feels like it ended up being a little rushed. If they had added 2 or 3 more GP series (maybe using the reverse tracks) and split the unlockable cars over those extra series, I probably would be more committed to unlocking them all.
