Just keep playing, the only thing that will help you get farther is being more familiar with the level layouts. And I guess knowing which weapons kill which enemies the fastest. Losing neighbours isn't a big deal I think, it won't stop you from progressing.

Chainsaw Hedge is the hardest level for a while, so it gets easier once you get that down.

i found the best way to beat this level is to immediately drink that potion that turns you into a big ass monster
and immediately plow your way through to the neighbors. Theres one of these potions on the level itself and if you play your cards right.
you should have two of them when you get to the level itself.

Alright, then I guess I'll drink the potion right away and play the level until I find a good route. Also, the game has a great soundtrack, but this level is specially good so far. Any other tips or comments about the game are welcome so the thread doesn't die already. Thanks.

It kinda does. If you don't rescue at least one before the monsters kill them all, it's Game Over. Every one that dies means one less to rescue in the next stage, which is a double-edged sword: it's less work for you, but also less margin for error as the monsters get more numerous and brutal in killing them.

soda packs kill strong enemies. the other weapons are twice as strong as the water gun. the fire extinguisher is your friend, freeze stuff and run away. don't try and kill every enemy either, sometimes is best just to run away. keep grinding shelves and cupboards for items.
i made it to level 48 this year but got killed by the mother fucking spider. god damn this stupid thing takes forever to kill

Use radar to find survivors. If you get surrounded by strong enemies drop those balloon clown decoys. Hedge maze is pretty ez desu you can use your rockets to make a path through the hedges.

i love this game but it's mad stressful, have never actually beaten it. Chainsaw hedgemaze, Baby boss, and Worms definitely stand out as most dreaded levels. i was about to complain about them being op but in a way it kind of fits the horror genre of the game, the feeling of being vastly underpowered and running for your life, especially with the chainsaw guys (and dolls, with their terrifying laughs).

also the sound that dying neighbors make kills me and makes me not want to lose a single one. it's a great game but very hard unless you commit to it and learn the levels, i don't think there are any shortcuts. even the password system doesn't help much since you start with no items. i love a game that's both accessible but not necessarily easily beatable. Konami's good at that.

Obviously, but stressing over them dying is pointless. It will happen, and is unlikely to kill your run. There's only a handful of levels where you stand to get a game over like that, the ones with werewolves and fishmen.
