Old thread died.

>Latest Updates

Linux:
- Add support for DualSense (PS5) controller.
- enable CH341 and PL2303 USB serial drivers.
- Update SSL certificate to latest.

Main:
- input: use gamepad LEDs to display player number (DS3/4, DualSense, Switch, Wiimote).
- Add milti-instance no_merge_vidpid INI option.
Note: correct player LEDs behavior is guaranteed only on official gamepads. Clones and compatible controller may have different LED behaviors.

>What is MiSTer?

MiSTer is an open project that aims to recreate various classic computers, game consoles and arcade machines, using modern hardware. It allows software and game images to run as they would on original hardware, using peripherals such as mice, keyboards, joysticks and other game controllers.

Is SNAC worth it ? If you just use a USB controller with fast response like the HORI fighting commander with fast usb poll activated, isn't it the same thing ?

>> No.7969593

>>7969540
It's nice for an authentic feeling, and for SNAC-supporting cores the MiSTer would pass a blind test if you didn't know what you were playing on, but not being able to use SNAC-connected gamepads to control the menu core (or for console cores besides the matching system) is pretty annoying.

I'm no speedrunner so I'm content to use my Wii U Pro controller for most systems because it's wireless, convenient and connects up instantly. Allegedly this is a relatively laggy solution (using it via an 8bitdo bluetooth adapter which has ~35ms of lag apparently), but playing on a CRT I certainly can't feel any input delay. Your mileage may vary, but I like playing older games with the features MiSTer brings to the table- and wireless controllers is a big one.

>> No.7969785

>>7969593
Ar that point might as well just use a crtPi. Pretty sure the latency would be lower.

Thanks for the reply, I will stick with USB controller then, I'm using the Hori fighting commander for most of the cores and raphnet adaptater for SNES and NES core, I was curious if SNAC was going to be a game changer but in my case doesn't look like it will be worth.

>> No.7970867

>>7970685
SNAC is really only useful when you need it for stuff like lightguns, the USB polling is good enough for normal controllers.
Personally SNAC feels underutilized. The ideas floating around of making more link cable adapters seems more interesting to me, and who knows maybe when that PS1 core finally comes out in 30 years we could get a memory card SNAC adapter to let us swap memory card files from console to MiSTer and vice versa.

>> No.7971047

>>7969540
SNAC is worth it if you're a stickler for original controllers or light guns. If you don't care about either of these things, it's just a lot of money for something you'll use once or twice, you're not going to be telling the difference between a couple of ms of theoretical input lag.
