Welcome to The Garage, a thread where fans of racing vidya can discuss their favourite arcade, sim, kart, and any other kinds of racing games. If you’re looking for something new to play or are new to the genre ask other Anons for recommendations and remember to gear up and have fun.

The previous thread flew off the edge of Death Bowl: >>7896275

The crew mechanic, for one thing. Feels like an afterthought. I like that each crew character has a niche to use but there's no thoughtful design into how those are applied.

It almost feels like a character ability you have rather than a feature of a partner character because of how instantaneously you get effects from it.

Like the blocker. As soon as you activate it they rush ahead and block an opponent right then and there, as if they were holding back up until the moment you told them to do their job. Their AI doesn't change driving strategies to try and get into position, they just follow a scripted event that tells them to block an opponent. Way too simplistic.

Yes, precisely what I was talking about. GT4's driving is still unbelievably shit and the camera swing is still a problem, so the game still remains unenjoyable and I keep playing GT3 and GT Concept. The great thing is that the secret menu and FOV options work in Tourist Trophy, so that game is finally "playable".

>> No.7946230

>GT4's driving is unbelievably shit
Not really, It's just more realistic then 2 or 3. Cars have actual weight to them and there is a much better sensation of turning radius when braking. As well as Drivetrains actually making sense. FFs and 4WD under steer a lot while FRs oversteer and slide more.

>> No.7946242

>>7938838
I would say it's because as you turn, the camera moves with your car, meaning you lose sight of the depth of a turn. Your peripheral view changes and it becomes hard to judge what angle you're at since your focal point keeps moving.

When the camera is "lazy" and doesn't swing around until you're really deep into a turn then you can keep your eye on surrounding objects and the curvature of the corner more easily.

Well Gran turismo 1 and 2 lean toward sim but are more arcadey with the physics. Arcade mode also dumbs down the physics and makes it more arcadey

Rage Racer is a solid Ridge Racer game, as well as Ridge Racer Type 4.

Need for speed High stakes on PS1 has somewhat of a cult following and I personally prefer it to the PC version.

There's also Driver 1 and 2, they aren't racing or sim but more car chase games. Cars aren't sim at all but drive with a ton of weight and sliding to them.

That webm I posted is me beating class A's with a class C (with a self-imposed challenge on top of that) when I should really be driving a Maclaren F1, and it was fun, but the later races require speed that the class C cars don't have. You can drift by releasing the gas as you're turning into a corner, then pressing it again. You can also drift by tapping the brake as you turn. While drifting, you have to turn in the opposite direction to straighten the car again. Don't worry too much about setting up the drift, the cars drift around the corners like they're on rails.

I hate that crowd so, so fucking much. Their entire modus operandi is to develop a cult following to a single sim game and then do whatever they can to ensure nobody else plays any other game AND get violently angry when flaws in their game of choice are highlighted. iRacing is the prime example - when even professional racing drivers are saying your tyre physics sucks doubling down and saying they don't know what they are on about is not the right move.

When approaching a corner, the general rule is to
1) Slow down a little
2) Stay on the side of the track opposite to the corner
3) Turn into the corner as close to the inner side (apex) as you can
4) Accelerate as you make it past the apex, keeping your car as straight as possible
Apexing in Ridge Racer isn't exactly as listed here, compared to over racing games, since you can drift around every corner. In Shooting Hoops, however, you can do it without slowing down, braking, or drifting.
