Master attacking while jumping for fighting the knights and enemies like them. Use your shield for blocking when you can. Be careful not to get knocked back into pits.

Sheild practice. Outside of your own movement, learning to block attacks is a key element to your success. Take some time to think "high block, low block" when in combat.

Yeah, this. Take some time and just block an opponent who switched high/low for as long as you can, dont attack. When you have it down, counter attack after blocking.

You can use jump slashes against knights since they dont block when you’re airborn, but you’ll want some fundamentals practice for later enemies who that trick wont work on.

Make sure you dont skip the Heal spell on accident, it’s pretty easy to miss.

Just use a guide. Back in the day, they sold guides around the release of these titles.

Some of the Phantasy Star games were even released with hint books included in the initial purchase.

The game has a kind of logic to how it hides things on the map, so when you find some secrets it'll be easy to find more. You can grind for EXP pretty easily, too. Also make sure to stick to the roads when you're low on HP, because even if you get a random encounter on a road tile, there'll be no enemies and you can just walk offscreen.
There are maps which tell you where 1-UPs and fairies are, and when you find a few you'll know where to look. And if you're about to go into a dungeon with no lives left, don't be afraid to die just to set your lives back to 3. When you get more items, it'll be easier to traverse the map starting at the palace.
If you're bad at fighting, try a more defensive style, like other anons said. The shield blocking mechanic in Ocarina of Time is inspired by this game (which is why zoomers complain about how you have to "wait around" all the time), so think of the encounters with Octoroks and other enemies with projectile attacks like you would do in that game, only the bullets can't be deflected back at them so you'll have to find your opportunity to strike.
Don't try to speedrun going to every dungeon as fast as you can just to get to the end. This game wants you to get stronger as you go and take your time a little.

Oh, I forgot. Bubbles (the stupid floating skull things) CAN DIE, but they take a fuckton of hits. If you're in a dungeon and need a level up, but there are no enemies left, you can kill bubbles for 50xp each. When you get the ability to down-stab in the air, they're fun to farm for the giggles.

I've played through this game 3 times and I have no idea what you're talking about

You can choose which attribute to level up. You can level up evenly or unevenly. Dudes online generally seem to favor leveling attack power a lot in the early game.

There's also the fact that finishing a palace magically gives you enough XP to reach the next level in SOMETHING, no matter what it may be or how expensive it may be, so if you manipulate your XP count to be just beyond the leveling thresholds in the two stats you don't want then even if it's far below the threshold for the stat you do want you'll get whatever huge number of points you need to gain the next level in that stat. It is a very commonly exploited trick (not that you actually need it to do well or anything, unless you're a speedrunner).

Agreed. Far too often, people get filtered by Zelda 2, then automatically dismiss it as a shit game because it's too hard, instead of actually trying to get better at it.

Her name's Kate. I don't think they've said her last name. She's teaching Arino a little English in those segments. They make for good screenshots even though most of those episodes haven't been subbed yet, since the show puts actual English on the screen. She'll be around for like the first half of Season 25.

The jumping motherfuckers have a cheese in some rooms. In the rooms they show up where there's a lot of blocks you can destroy, make it 5 tile-high. You can crouch and stab forever and win damageless

Are there any hacks of this game with better graphics and less use of compression in the level design? Something like Rogue Dawn for Zelda II?

I think I remember at least in the final palace that you could escape from some fights with the blue ones by cutting your way high through some block walls and rushing by them.

There’s a mod called Redux that changes some graphics, has some quality of life improvements but it’s nowhere near a TC like Rouge Dawn
