If you have to choose between those 2, play the ps3/360 remaster. Why? the PS4 version is just the PS2 version emulated. If you're from Europe it will run at 50hz, meanwhile the remaster has widescreen support and it's region free. One thing you want to have in mind though, The HD version has a new lighting system, and a few cosmetic changes, while the non-hd version has a distintive greenish and fog-ish and not saturated look, the hd version looks darker and saturated. You might not like that.

I'm aware that game artists at the time had CRT monitors, PVMs and consumer TVs but were the consumer sets high end and super clear or regular TVs? And what kind outputs did devkits have back then?

Also, was it actually common for an artist on a dev team to have all of this? The examples I've seen are this picture and an interview from some other big Japanese game company which I can't find right now, but they would have had far higher budgets, right?

There are three types of CRT looks the Sony trinitron(aperture grille) one and all the inferior ones that tried to side-step Sony patters(to the year 96). And the third are ancient shadow masks. The reason you think there is a difference between PC monitors and TVs isn't because of tech but because you only saw post-96 monitors made after the Trinitorn patent ran out.

No CRT general, so i'll ask here. I got the Delock 62967 (DP to VGA) a few days ago to use with my RX580 GPU and LG F700P monitor and i can't get it to recognize my CRT.

It shows up as ACI0000 - Generic PnP Monitor in Custom Resolution Utility and as "Wired Display" in Windows and only has 640x480 at 60Hz available. When i connect it to my motherboard (straight VGA) via integrated graphics, it shows up properly as "GSM434C - LG F700P" and in Windows with many modes available, so i don't think it's an issue with the monitor's cable (i also cleaned the monitor's VGA cable end).

What's strange is when i connect an old Samsung LCD monitor to the Delock, it worked just fine with the name and modes available.

The sets you'll find being given away today tend to come from poor families that have seen constant use for the last 20+ years. The picture isn't anywhere near as vibrant as the set was when it was NIB. For non-degraded sets in great condition, you're going to have to pay.

If you just want a crt and don't really care what it looks like, by all means, pick up sets on the side of the road until you find one that works.

>> No.7958193

For a large set I agree. But for something <20 inches you can likely find something that sat in some old persons guest bedroom for 20 years mostly unused because they only ever have their kids/grandkids over for the holidays, and they all have had phones for the last 10 years.
