talk about the pc engine, and all it's glorious hudson, namco and taito games

also favorite game on the system?
>easy mode: no rondo
>hard mode: no ys

mine is bonk 2, such a wonderful platformer with a lot of replayability (secrets and crazy scoring system). liquid kids is another great platformer

Shit taste there. PC Engine, TurboGrafx-16 was good. Wasn't as good as Genesis or SNES but it was still good with some decent games.

I have no idea. I never even asked this myself. I'm as lost as you are so lets see if some anon here knows why it was called that.

i didn't even know this thing existed until a few years ago, and i'm not even a zoomer.
so far i've only dipped into the first bonk game, but it's pretty cool. probably not the best mascot platformer but very charming with a cool art direction.
as for the console itself i love the pc engine's design, somehow both incredibly cute and badass. paired with the CD drive looks great too. i think if they would have kept the original design (turbografx looks like ass imo, and the cd attachment placement is beyond dumb) and released in 1987 with the japanese release, it would have found much more success in north america.

>> No.7944152

Product regulators considered the PCE too small for the american market, so they had to redesign, but sadly ended up being released after the Genesis.

How is the emulation on it? I have a NES Mini and PS classic and don't really know if I should get a PC Engine Mini. Also, does ordering them from Japan Amazon cost like double for shipping?

>> No.7949487

>>7948776
the 8-bit thing is kinda a meme, but the system wasn't really pushed hard enough that often

street fighter ii is almost as good as the snes version (minus lack of turbo mode), but that was the only 20 megabit hucard

most of the nicest looking games on the system were shooters, especially the ones on Super CD

>> No.7949504

>>7949354
pretty much the same as snes/nes and genesis minis, ie good enough for most people, tiny bit of expected input lag that will bother the autists.

>> No.7949743

>>7949504
Speaking of the Genesis Mini; I was thinking of buying one of those since thry use USB ports and not the weird controller ports the NES Mini uses. Would you say a Genesis Mini with both controllers is worth around $50? I just always think of having backups is all.

>> No.7949767

>>7949743
absolutely worth it if you're into mini consoles. stock emulator doesn't run everything but you can load through retroarch like the other minis. overall presentation is really nice, plus you get some brand new high quality 3 button controllers. just make sure you enable the overclock (it makes games run better)

Ended up getting one on ebay for $59 now. I suppose that was a good deal since they usually are like $70 or $80 before tax. Plus I see that Target isn't selling them anymore.
