Zelda 2 is one of my favourite games, but I'm constantly filtered by Zelda 1

>> No.7931240

>>7931221
Filtered how? Like too hard or you get bored?

>> No.7931283

>>7931221
The only thing that is a filter for most is the lost woods maze solution (death mountain in Zelda 2 is worse). Use the map that comes in the manual for the location of the first few dungeons

>> No.7931298

>>7931240
I just don't find it fun. There's no sense of direction. I know where everything is, but going between monster-filled screens to get there is a drag.

Different strokes, homey. I think butchering every monster on just about every screen is half the fun. I would exclude blue leevers before you have at least the second sword in this as hitting them each 8 times is tedious even for me.

All the dungeons looking the same in A Link to The Past ruins the game for me

>> No.7931401

>>7931350
Fair. I don't think that's enough to ruin the whole game, personally, but I get that someone could think that. If it helps, there's a swamp dungeon and an ice dungeon which both look very distinct.
>>7931346
Yeah. It's more action oriented I guess, but without the neat crouching battle system 2 has. I think later 2D zeldas are more fun because you slash instead of stabbing.

>> No.7931439

Link's awakening overworld is unfun to navigate and it makes me enjoy it less than other zelda games that are considered tedious like Oracle of Ages.
Adventure of Link is unironically too difficult for me and has filtered me time after time. Part of problem is learning the allocation routes of the leveling system.
I can't beat Onox and Twinrova in the oracle games, either.
OoT Master Quest isn't very good.

Zelda 1 has arguably the best combat of the franchise to this day. The balance between the enemies, enemy density, sword progression, usefulness and rarity of bombs, rupee economy and the balanced effectiveness of the bow, boomerang and magic rod makes the entire game extraordinarily fun as an action game.
Alttp's number of dungeons should have been the gold standard for the franchise.
Link's Awakening and the Oracle games have the best bosses in the franchise from a gameplay perspective.
Oot and mm are the only 3d zelda games worth playing.

some people dont find the exploration fun? think about when you were a kid and you found a small forest. you don't run into the woods to get to the other side. you go in to wander around and find whatever interests you. imagine not seeing the map and find a heart or the fairies or the grave yard or a dungeon. shit is cool as hell to discover and explore! there's no leveling nothing is blocked off to you. the only thing filtering you is your own sense of exploration and adventure. probably in life too aha

Reminder that there is really only 1 dungeon in the first Zelda.

>> No.7931583

Zelda 1 sucks. There's nothing to do.

I usually like to explore in games, but Zelda 1 just feels off. Every game since has improved upon that aspect if they chose to include it, I think. I appreciate the game for what it is, but I'd rather play most other 2D Zeldas besides the DS ones, maybe. Not that it's a bad game, I just have trouble getting into it like I do others.

How so?

I have never played a Zelda game that wasn't on the N64.

As the game is programmed, all the dungeons are on the same 'map', just separated.

>> No.7931634

Yeah but you are better off playing Twilight Princess if you like the N64 games

>> No.7931648

>>7931629
Oh, I thought either you meant that, or only one of the dungeons was good enough to be considered a "dungeon" by some technicality. I think OoT uses a similar method for the secret holes (the ones that usually have cows and stuff) where they just cull everything but the area you're in.

>>7931624
>>7931634
Wind Waker is okay but it's divisive for a reason. I'd say it's more fun than Twilight Princess, though, which feels like Nintendo jacking itself off and giving Zelda 64 fanservice to everyone who hated Wind Waker in the first place. If you don't like one, you'll probably like the other.

If you want a good Zelda to play and you're familiar with the 64 games, try ALttP on SNES or Link's Awakening on Gameboy/GBC.

Zelda I refers to all of its dungeons collectively as "The Underworld". Then there's the fact the actual dungeon map data is all one big sheet: if you activate a noclip cheat in one, you *will* end up in another dungeon's map extremely quickly. Sometimes this is even taken to the extent of nestling the layout for one smaller, more compact dungeon INSIDE the layout for another bigger, more sprawling one.

Do the entrances line up to where they are on the overworld?

As someone who just finished Zelda 1(without a guide except for the blue ring) and am now starting 2 I can say I'm enjoying a 2 a bit more but I like both, I will say people who say Zelda 1 is better then ALttP, LA or any of the Capcom games are fucking wrong.

Where are you in Zelda 2? Death Mountain is the filter. If you can get past there, you'll love the rest of the game.

>> No.7931716

>>7931691
I forget. I wanna say "no", though. Honestly, I think that Anon was just attempting some light trolling in the first place. The dungeons are pretty obviously only the same one in that they're all underground and Zelda 1 conceptualizes them more as one subterranean region ("The Underworld") than later games do. They're not even canonically contiguous with one another, though protos indicate this might've been the plan at one time.

Just got the glove in the Swamp dungeon, Darknuts kicking my ass but I'm getting better, the combat system is really fun and exploring is a lot better since I don't have to burn random bushes.

There are a few things like Bagu which I think are a little cryptic. Your first playthrough is always the best, discovering that stuff on your own.

You didn't play it properly the original game came with an unfinished map that pointed you to the proper dungeon order and the manual for the game came with a mini guide in it

with all the zelda lore and trivia i didn't not know this. It's pretty cool they were optimizing for space for the first dungeons then just blew it out for the final one. i wonder if there were going to be more dungeons?

This right here gets me too. Having to switch out the only really swappable button for feather/hookshot/bomb/bracelet was such a pain with how often they were required.

>Oot and mm are the only 3d zelda games worth playing.
Try A Link Between Worlds. Other than a little easy, it's rather fun.
