Those aren't collectathons nor do they imbue the aforementioned design philosophy of modern games from my previous post. It wasn't my intention to imply that I don't think games should have collectables or extra challenges to 100% it, or anything along those lines. On the contrary, actually. For some games it's great. When I hear collectathon, I think more of a paradigm shift from how platformers used to be (ya know, primarily about platforming, or its mechanics, puzzles, whatever it may be) to games where the soul purpose seems to be just mindlessly scouring the levels ad tedium to 100% them. For example, compare the DK trilogy to DK 64, or the SMB trilogy + world to SMW2

While SMB1-3 remain some of my favorite games of all time, I was so disappointed with yoshis island I never touched Mario again until NSMB on wii, and I've only played the nes and snes Zelda, so I would have no idea what such a game you propose would even look like, but if it actually had interesting platforming and level design I would give it a shot.
