Novelty and wonder of childhood is derived from experiencing things you never have before.

Games are a great way to do that as there are so many games you have never played with worlds and stories you've never experienced. You can also experience it through new hobbies, travel, etc.

Not quite, the ease of access to the internet today is much too convinient to give up.
It's much easier to apply for a job now a days and the improvments to technology are certainly benificial.

That being said, I really do want a pre-9/11 world where war on terror didn't keep leaking into other fasets of everyday life.
It'd probably be easier to find maintain my car back in the early 2000s and I really miss the days when people weren't so politically correct.
TV shows were better in the 90's and early 2000s, at least in my opinion, music and movies too.

3D games; I think, truely peaked in 2005 all the way to 2012, everything pass that point are just refinements to the craft.
The only major improvment I can think of to 3D pass 2012 would be RTX.
2D games to me will always belong to the 90s and will always belong to a golden era in video games.

But I did get an "allowance" for doing chores, homework, etc. My first system I owned was a damn NES in like 94. All my friends already had snes/sega by then so they did unload their old nes games on me, dont think I ever had to pay for a game and had easily over 100.

Ironically having free access to unlimited information made people dumber. Studies have shown people attached to their technology have significantly worse long term memory than those who use their technology sparingly. Knowing all that extra info is always available has a mental effect where your brain doesn't want to commit to remembering things. The smarter civilization becomes the dumber its individuals become, kinda funny.

The 90s was the best time of my life -- pure happiness without bad thoughts in the back of my head, no worries in the world, everything was great back then. It was comfy. When I saw an episode of the Simpsons where Bart had a hand-held TV he brought with him to class, I thought it was the coolest thing ever and imagined a world where I could go to school and have a screen in my hand where I could watch whatever I wanted. I thought it would never happen, and that that kind of technology just wasn't possible. Now we have smartphones where we can do that. Watch any show anywhere. But now the shows suck. Something I thought about the other day was that I can be happy that I can relive the 90s whenever I want to: when I listen to vengaboys, it takes me back. when I drive by my old house, it takes me back. The 90s are always in my soul. I can always be happy knowing I lived it.

It's your damn fucking CELL PHONE.

Turn your routers wifi off. Leave your cell in the kitchen. Lan only! It's 50% of the battle.

Going back would be cool because women were way hotter than today's trash and also it was easier to pick up girls back in the day. For some reason I feel like junk food tasted better then (Snickers, McDonald's, etc). Even EGGS didn't have those weird white things on the yoke. Bread tasted better (but went stale sooner).

It's way better now but more expensive to live. I actually feel like the last 2 decades for me were wasted waiting for the rest of society to get to my level. Sure SJWs are annoying but everybody used to be a NORMIE. And if you were different in the slightest way they would not shut the fuck up about it. I kinda want to, but realistically it wouldn't do me any good.
My late 90's/early00's childhood is made of wonderful memories, but also a lot of frustration. I was lucky enough to own a PS1 with pirate games and an N64 (with rental games only) and have a great transition from 4th to 5th gen. But after that, nothing. Just a family PC that could barely run Age of Mythology. I'm among the 5% of game enthusiasts who missed the PS2 because we couldn't afford it.
One of my absolute favorite games growing up was Metal Gear Solid. I was obssesed with it. I can't tell you how bad I felt when I saw the trailers for the second part, then it came out and I was unable to get on my hands on it.
Most games nowadays might no be as magical as they once were, but at least everything is more accesible and I can discover everything I missed back in the day thanks to ports and emulation.

‘84 here totally agree there is a real dark side to the 90s. It was fun and magical sometimes but the toxic masculinity made it stressful and depressing for me. Kids would also have to deal with abuse from their shitty boomer parents.

It’s like those silly video games were all some of us had to live for. If you were a shy nerd you wouldn’t even have drugs to keep you company. At least now as adult in BC I can walk into a store and buy all the weed edibles I want to take the pain away. All the boomers could offer me was Jesus, man up or anti-depressants/anti psychotics.

Yeah. Online gaming back in the days of Quake and Quake 2 was just… different. Where I’m from you had a lot less trolls in games because back then literally everyone in an online match knew everyone else IRL either directly or indirectly through another friend.

So while we did still behave like a bunch of deranged retards it was all in good humour and since we all knew each other there were limits since if you behaved like a complete asshole chances are you’d eventually get a nice smacking across the face by someone you know or don’t.

There was just a much stronger sense of community since back then PC gaming was seen as something only geeks and other uncool kids did. We were totally fine with the label since it gave us our own little world to screw around in and you don’t really get this anymore.

Oh we were also really fucking naive. Our clan leader for example was like 40 and we’d go to his house for a BYOD despite being in our mid-teens LMAO and we didn’t give a shit as long as we had a blast. Looking back it legit looked like a pedo grooming den. Fun times.

I find that as I got older I really struggle to meet new friends. Late 90’s IRC chat rooms were fucking awesome too and some of my longest friendships were formed out of random “hey wanna meet up IRL?” hookups. Some things are just not the same anymore.

The tranny shit is a psyop to sterilize degenerate retards and the mentally ill. It serves no other purpose than weakening society and cleansing the gene pool.
The reality is that we need degenerate retards. A lot of the best things on the internet were made by degens. Once nerd culture became commodified and turned into a "product" the degens and nerds flocked to tranny shit instead in a desperate attempt to find a new bunker away from cultural acceptance so they could go back to living like anti-social anti-normie mole people like they were for years before hand.

This probably sounds really stupid but the vast majority of cool nerds I knew or knew of in the 2000s are all trannies now. Once the internet changed they all became trannies and instead of making cool romhacks or YouTube videos or artwork like they did 20 years ago all they do now is post on Twitter about trans rights with other trannies.

This is not a better world. I don't even hate trans people, I just know the rise in trans and LGBT people in general is artificial, and I was raised by my fucking gay uncle so I never had anything against gay people to begin with.

Literally look at TCRF/Juul, smwcentral, Spriter's Resource, any other fucking romhacking/fangaming/retro-creativity circle and you'll notice that everybody has transitioned within the past decade. I didn't say trans people didn't exist until now but I'm not surprised you're the type to put words into someone else's mouth to try and reaffirm themselves. I know trans people have existed for fucking centuries, I know trans communities have existed for centuries, I'm talking about the literal Present Day Present Time. I apologize for having to elaborate and hopefully one day you'll get over your crippling addiction to being a passive-aggressive retard like most people on a post-Twitter internet.

And no, I don't hate trans people. I've been fucking friends with trans people for years before any of this shit went down and I have trans family. That's why the phrase "transtrender" exists, there's a difference between someone with gender dysphoria and someone who's just a degenerate fetishist wearing programming socks and shitposting on social media. Does that make sense to you? Do you get what I'm saying? Do you understand how creepy fucking Twitter groomers make my actual trans and gay family look bad by association? Do you understand the massive fucking uptick in this shit is not natural?

It’s been quite a shock seeing all the nerd trannies pop up. I don’t think of them as degenerates rather it’s just that nerdism and autogynephilia strongly overlap. Ok some of them can be kinda disgusting but I’m not a /pol/tard anymore and i really want to be tolerant of them if I’m able. The way I see it, we're just over 20 years into widespread and accessible internet access. 10 years since everybody achieved even more accessible internet in their pocket. There was a sexual revolution and awakening that occurred during that time for younger age groups. Societal dialogue has accelerated. People have found very specific communities, while church communities dwindle. It all makes sense to me and I just accept it. I've got a handful of trans and gender fluid friends who are more or less normal-ass people. It struck a chord with me further when I've been asked to chaperone a trans friend because they've been assaulted before for no real reason. I don't believe anybody has any good or valid reasons to hate trans people or default to them being bad people worth criticizing other than using that as an excuse to glaze over their own discomfort. Reactionaries tend to be far more cringe than legit trans people only trying to live their lives the way they want to. People buy too much into hyperbole about people and things they have little understanding or experience with and this awful website is no exception. "I want to go back to the 90's so I don't have to look at trannies" is a pretty shitty claim to make and I'm sorry that those with that view are so inconvenienced and allow that rent-free space in their head to be occupied by imaginary trans squatters.

>It's much easier to apply for a job now a days
It's also much easier for the employers to set up a bot that automatically trashes your CV if you don't meet certain keywords.
Technology made it easier for any shmuck from anywhere in the country to apply for a job in your city that would've otherwise be exclusive to the people of your city, thus greatly diminishing your chances of being employed, because the pool is that much larger. Mailing or delivering your CV in person filtered a lot of people by nature of them not even being in your city to compete with you. A job that would've probably been given to you and set you for life in the area you live is now given to someone who's not even from your state, or even your country.
