This one is my absolute favorite. From the samey-looking labyrinths to the NPC's and creatures, it's got a very SMT-like vibe. You can tell it was made by Atlus just by playing it, and it's a miracle it got released outside of Japan (just Europe, though)
Even if it's a relatively known game for survival horror enthusiasts and collectors, pretty much everything about it is a mystery. The director isn't even credited at the end for some fucking reason, and only two other titles from the team exist, one of which is an RPG that reuses some of the sound effects and music from Hellnight. It probably sold poorly in Japan too.

Interesting idea, though. Dreamcast had quite a few quirky 'survival horror' games released for it. The system was only on the market for a short period of time.

I had no idea what I was doing when I first played this game. I think I found the horror monitor by accident, and I still didn't really know what I was doing. It is kind of like minesweeper (and someone else just said), but you disable 'jump scares' before they happen.

It's hard to say with the PC version without looking it up. Maybe it is a compatibility issue? The Dreamcast version is pretty comparable to the PC game, but runs at 480i/(p with VGA) and probably has lower resolution BG's

I played this game on the PS1, and a bug stopped my playthrough cold. It was some area where I had to open a grate in a ventilation shaft and then crawl through the shaft while an enemy was chasing me. I would get through the shaft and the gate would close, but the enemy would clip through the gate and kill me every single time. Pretty retarded.

It was a shame, because I really liked the premise of three people trying to figure out what was going on while not being able to be in the same room as one another.

I wasn't sure if the Dreamcast port uses the 480p backdrops or not. Both RE2 and RE3 use Windows CE layer. Which means that they are the PC ports. I do have Code Veronica for the Dreamcast, but I never bothered looking for RE 2 and 3 ports. They can't even be played on ReDream because of Windows CE. The Dreamcast was only on the market between 1998 and 2001 and it did get a steady stream of quirky survival horror games. System Shock 2 was planned for the Dreamcast.

Both RE2 and RE3 on DC use the same backgrounds as the PC versions but the colours are fucked, and on top of this in RE3 the backgrounds are slightly compressed so the quality is worse

RE3 on GameCube also uses the PC version backgrounds but with some changes/fixes

Finished Silent Hill 4 and got the worst ending. It's cool you can save Eileen the first time through without advance knowledge but she probably has to be pretty beaten up for you to have a chance. The ending being the best part of the game was also a nice surprise. In general it's not a bad game, it just looks weak compared to the three that came before it. I at least appreciate they tried something different.

Blue Stinger could almost be a great game if it didn't have such clunky controls. It's the type of game that I would like to see be modified with better controls. I kinda liked Carrier more because it stayed with the RE2 gameplay style. Dreamcast has a weird collection of Japanese-indy survival horror games. Kenji Eno's D2 is interesting and flawed. Blue Stingers controls can bring down the game. But it has its charm. IllBleed is strange in general. Carrier is like a bad straight to video movie, which makes it great. Code Veronica is the most polished of the DC original Survival horror games.
