why do people keep saying this game is shit?

>> No.7873702

It's genuinely one of the best 2D marios. A or B tier game.

You're not allowed to like both games in a series on this board, you have to defend one to the death and shit on the fans of the other at all times.

They do? It's kind of short, but other than that I've always thought it was great.

A month ago there were a few people arguing about it. But I think there are more people unaware of the game than people mad about it.

My favourite game of all time. I prefer the challenge of SML or even the first Wario Land, but SML2 is pure fun.

My fav GB game, easily. Wario Land came close to topping it, but I loved the overworld in 6 Golden Coins too much.

Incredibly based. I've beaten this game more times than I care to count, it's like muscle memory at this point. Always replay it in the summer too, it's more than a game for me.
SML was my first video game but I didn't beat it until I was a teen, I was able to beat SML2 as a kid (one of the first games I actually did beat) and it changed my outlook on video games.

Super Mario Land nostalgia. Never mind that the controls are stiff, Mario's jump arc feels weird, and the game is only 12 stages long, somehow bizarro Mario is supposed to be better than SML2.

No idea. I really liked SML2.
Love the atmosphere and music. One of my favorite Mario games honestly.

I swear this game had a top-down view overworld akin to Zelda, Pokemon, etc, but I'm watching video playthroughs of it and it's all sidescrolling. Wtf could I be thinking of? Was there a topdown mario game for gameboy?

Nobody that isn't a complete retard or a deliberate contrarian has ever seen it. The only valid complaints about this game are that it's a little too easy and a little too short. Those flaws are not nearly enough to outweigh the game's positives. Super Mario Land 2 is great.

I loved Super Mario Land 2 growing up and still think it holds up nicely.

To anyone interested there is a colour rom hack for the game and I think it looks good. Normally I hate fan mods.

>> No.7876573

I like it. It has zanier and more significant dedication to gimmick worlds than most Mario games until the Mario Galaxy games. The moon world, the unique sap zones, the sizing zone (Mario 64 did this but not as well) and a few others are part of why it feels like this. It makes it more unique than say, World or 3, which are considered better mainline Mario games.

Because it's the worst Mario platformer, and the second worst is about 10 times better. Terrible physics in a series that relies on great physics; and it's slow, easy, and boring

>> No.7876809

It's not shit but I see the complaints. I don't like the zoomed in view mixed with the pace of the platforming- feels claustrophobic to me. I prefer the fast paced but zoomed out first game, or the slower pace of wario land. These are all things I didn't give a fuck about as a kid but replaying it kind of sobered me on it

also the music is kind of hilarious contrasted with the first game. It's not bad, but Mario Land had a GOAT soundtrack

>> No.7877956

>>7873697
it was fine, better than SML1 at least

>> No.7878329

>>7873697
I appreciate its ambition. They basically tried to fit a Mario World-esque game onto the Gameboy and succeeded with little concessions. Despite that I found the platforming in the first Mario Land to be more fast-paced and challenging. Mario Land 2 is a lot slower in comparison, and aside from the last level, it's not as engaging as its predecessor. I still had a great time with it though. It has some of the most unique level themes of any Mario game and I can imagine it being a pretty good deal back in the day.

It's probably just mainly young people that feel annoyed and confused that this game doesn't follow the Mario "lore" and has him on a weird adventure, but this game was made on a time when Nintendo wasn't so paranoid about their characters and actually let creators experiment with them and be more flexible. It's a great game that was almot universally loved when it was released, and amazing to see in a real Game Boy.

I love Kazumi Totaka, but I feel like the main theme of SML2 is just grating after a while.

There's a word for it that in forgetting, but I love the whole "using the same basic theme for every song" thing, and I think he personally did it much better in later games like VB Wario Land, Wave Race 64, and Yoshi's Story.

Was playing Pumpkin Zone level 3 and there is a fucking dead end here if you are big Mario. Above this is an unbreakable ceiling, and below this is not escapable unless you're small...
