So which one should I play, /vr/?

i can't remember but i liked the one where you have to memorize a dance in a destroyed lavaland

was it actually clever to release both at the same time? if I remember correctly they are both two totally unique games but the names and marketing make it look like it's the same game with just some slight changes like Pokémon red or blue

Nope. They're different games you can cross over and have one total story when combined via passwords.
Both are great

Well then. Uh.

Ooh, I found this
>Ages is puzzle-heavy while Seasons is action-oriented

Guess I'm playing Seasons!

Both. Seasons first then Ages if you want a better story, ending, and final boss/dungeon.

Ages first then Seasons if you want a better paced experience.

that's what I've meant with terrible marketing. nobody understood that those are 2 unquie games not even the guy who hangs around on /vr/
they all thought Zelda pulled a Pokémon and who can blame them with those almost identical covers and names and release

>> No.7874685

I don't remember how it works (google it) but the two games can be linked together, tying their stories and allowing you to fight Ganon at the end. It's really cool and I feel like these games are ripe for some kind of Link's Awakening HD treatment

Seasons for sure. Both if you liked Seasons.

Ages drags in too many places, you end up running around the overworld aimlessly way to often and it’s a drag.

>> No.7874793

Play both for the ultimate adventure!

When you finish one it tells you to play the other. Even if someone thought it was a pokemon situation and only bought one they'd figure it out.

You're going to play through in both directions anyway.

>> No.7875058

I mean, you get the full story by doing one Linked Game so you don't need to do both routes, but the Oracle duology are good enough games where you definitely still should.

>> No.7875075

>>7874474
You have to combine both games together to get all content and face the true final boss.

That said Seasons is by a landslide the better game. It has a more unique and interesting gimmick, said gimmick is used much better in the actual game, the overworld is designed better, it has better dungeons, and has better items. The Magnet Gloves are probably the most fun items ever to appear in a 2D Zelda. Subrosa is also a lot more fun than the Zora areas in Ages.

Ages has better waifus and better NPC interaction (you'd expect that given the time travel gimmick) but the use of time travel is often very flimsy and hackneyed. In Seasons you can do shit like change to winter to walk over a lake, or change to summer to dry it up and explore the bottom of it, in Ages usually time travel is WELL THERE WAS A BIG ROCK HERE IN THE PAST AND NOW THERE ISN'T or THIS BRIDGE IS DESTROYED IN THE FUTURE TIMELINE SO CROSS IT IN THE PRESENT OR PAST, it just feels lazy. Also this game has a fuckton of water for some reason.

as far as I remember it was all done with a password system, no link cables, just writing down codes you get from playing both games.

I've never seen a more incorrect take on Seasons/Ages' gimmicks. Seasons is the braindead one. You just jump on a stump and change the season to whatever weather you need. You rarely need to even think about it. With Ages, you actually have to be careful about where you travel back in time with the harp, since the geography is completely different between both overworlds.

Star with Ages, then move to Seasons. I've done playthroughs both ways and A to S works out the best for me.

>> No.7876830

>>7874474
Ages first, then Seasons. Then Seasons to Ages. There are different story outcomes by going through both paths. Ages first is a much more entertaining game, since Ages is a deeper game than Seasons, making the linked playthrough of Seasons feel like NewGame+.

Should be getting Ages out of the way, first.

I like how you posted this as if most people have the autism to do such a thing.

You don't start it with more stuff. There is a lot if extra story and new items you're missing out on, fyi, anon.

You don't.

Seasons if you play only one of them. It's clearly the better game. I like both though

Hey, it's not unheard of to replay games you like. If you should decide to go back to it a year later or so then playing them the other way around would be ideal.

Asking because I genuinely don't know, but don't you also get the L-2 sword first? With the L-3 sword replacing the L-2 sword later.

>> No.7878052

>>7878013
You get a sword upgrade from a quest in a linked game. And if you do that first then the next upgrade will the the L-3 sword.

I'll concede that it was dumb to say the linked game doesn't give you more stuff, but I still think the other guy is silly for avoiding it for that reason.

I recommend Ages -> Seasons first, then Seasons -> Ages if you feel like it. But either order is fine, really. You should link games if you do it, half the fun is experimenting with interesting rings.

It's not like Pokemon games where the two versions within a generation (e.g. Red and Blue) are the same game with minor differences. Oracles of Ages/Seasons are two completely different games. They're both great and you should play both of them. It uses this link system where, when you beat one game, you'll get a password that you can enter when starting the other game. You'll get passwords in the new game that you can use in the old game that'll unlock upgrades that you can transfer back to the new game. Plus, after beating the second game in a linked game system, you'll unlock the true final boss and true ending. As for which game you decide to play first, it's entirely up to you.

Anytime someone makes something great & they're called to do it again it ends up being the worst shit imaginable.
Either the team they worked with deserves the real credit or maybe they're some sort of genius-crazy that only does good with limitations but unbound they're ideas turn out bad.
>>7878940
was it just a definitive edition with both seasons and ages (or combined, like each age happens to be in a season) or was it going to be a third gimmick?

>> No.7879628

>>7879567
Was going to be a third gimmick (Actually, one of the games that came out has its planned gimmick and would have had a different one)
The third divine sister was going to be the focus and it was going to be a direct sequel to the others, closing the story.

>> No.7879685

>>7879567
>>7879628
The third gimmick was going to be colors. Supposedly they decided making the password system handle three games would have been exponentially too complex, not sure how much I believe that though.

Also, originally they were going to be remakes of Zelda 1 & 2. The dungeon bosses in OoS are a remnant from that, along with the existence of sidescrolling sections.

>> No.7879998

>>7874530
When you finish seasons you'll get a password. Use that password when you start a new game in ages.

Also the overworld. Just compare Holodrum to Zelda 1's Hyrule map.
