There's nothing maddening about that setup. It's what God aka Sega™ intended.

This is my favorite combination, too. It's wide as shit but they're the best versions of the Genesis and Sega CD. The model 1 Genesis for obvious reasons and the Model 2 Sega CD has awesome bios music and is more reliable.

Nope. They were in the business since the late 1970s. SG-1000 released the same year as the OG Famicom. Then came the SG-1000 II, and after a while the MARK III (aka the original version of the Master System)

If Sega hadn't wanted you to do that they would've made the two generations of units incompatible or not shipped the Gen 2 CD with the extension piece for the Gen 1 Mega Drive.

Isn't that is because the X86000 and Z80 chips appeared in tons of electronics?

Now I really wonder if any of these CD player use these chips to do karaoke for whatever, and then reboot to Mega Drive mode whenever a game is inserted?

The Model 2 was meant to cut $50 off the price, not add $150.

But yes, they should have pushed the Sega CD harder... and never gave it the ability to run FMV's...

>> No.7873024

>>7873012
Right because as we know, FMV was meaningless to the CD format's eventual success.

>> No.7873139

>>7873024

So?

They sure didn't help the Sega CD.

People avoided the system because they viewed it as a shitty FMV game machine. Worse, the extra chips needed drove up the price of the already costly unit. It helped to tank the systems success and drove away real developers.

Even now days when people talk about the good parts of the Sega CD, FMV games are absent from the discussion. FMV's did not help the Sega CD.

>> No.7873206

>>7873139
i always thought that FMV's were cool little bonuses to when you start up a game or something. i really like how games like Popful Mail did it

>> No.7873234

>>7873206

Sorry, I wasn't clear. When I said FMV's I meant the live action video type like Sewer Shark or Night Trap to name the two most tolerated FMV titles on the system. To do this the Sega CD needed a special chip.

Anime cutscenes like in Lunar, Sonic CD and Popful Mail were something else that the CD drive would have been able to do without FMV capability. Like the PC Engine CD, it could do animation but not live action.

Model 2s have pretty decent video output, and on some model 2s the sound is just fine, and very comparable. Honestly the original model 1s just sort of have blown out sound in a few places.

Model 2s also don't need a headphone jack because they have stereo output natively.
