Lakers translation anon here. Just wanted to share with you my 1.0 menu patch with a few fixes and CG menu unlocked. Also, there's no general PC-98 thread now, so let's use this one shall we ?

Lakers 1 patch :

Lakers 2 patch with optional "don't" edition :

She actually does both in the course of the trilogy. But again, Lakers authors never much cared about realism. Otherwise the generals from an insectoid alien army wouldn't be half-naked big breasted women.

You can easily use a pre-built hard drive image (usable via emulation or real hardware with compact flash) and a disk image editor to play the official release. (There's a ready-to-go HDI of Mel-chan in the Neo Kobe set under doujinHomebrew, but lemme explain how to do it manually first.)

YAHDI: https://archive.org/details/YAHDI
DiskExplorer:https://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA013937/editdisk/index_e.html

-Open YAHDI in editdisk.exe, then navigate to GAMES and make a new directory with a name you like (ex. nurimeru).
-Enter new folder in editdisk.
-Extract pmeru095a to its own folder. Use "Import" in editdisk, then select all the pmeru files and add them.

Since YAHDI comes with system files and a nice file manager, you can then restart, navigate to GAMES/nurimeru (or wherever you put it), highlight meru.bat, and press R & then enter to start the game.

Alternatively, you can copy YAHDI's MS-DOS system files (COMMAND.COM + MSDOS.SYS + CONFIG.SYS) to a blank HDI, then just make the nurimeru folder and install that way. (Game's too big for one floppy and expects to run from a single folder off a hard drive.)

>>7800636
Just copy any regularly-sized PC-98 game floppy, clone a new one for whatever game you're playing (name it after the game!), and overwrite that disk as part of the game's userdisk install process.

I'll try to polish it a little before releasing anything. Plus, I'd like to unlock the extras menus in order to translate it, and that requires a full playthrough.
I thought for a moment that translating choices in the VN part could be nice, but there are just too many and most of all aren't worth bothering if you can't understand the dialogue. I'll throw in a little walkthrough instead.
Also, sex scenes are not interactive anymore, so if you expect to don't... you won't.

OP here. I'm in a good way to succeed insert ingtechnique/equipment names. I'm doing the three games simultaneously for the sake of consistency (plus, search for folklore shinto or chinese terms can be used for all games at once). Here is a test on how many you can extend names in equipment dialog boxes. Thought you might appreciate it !

I've extended stuff since. All enemy/tech names are translated in Lakers 1, and all equipement for Akira/Reiko/Chiaki is done in Lakers 2. Screens will follow as soon as I'm a little less overriden with work...

Anyway, any german speaking anon here ? Natsune's equipement is in full gelman (like engrish, but for german) and I don't know how I should transcribe it in order to be gramatically correct. Any help would be appreciated.

The german text -is- broken. I asked for help on rhdn because I don't speak a single german word and wanted to properly romanize the text. My apologies for the wet pants remarks, I was misguided by someone who was actually trying to help, even if he mistranlated the term. You'll have that when you're not a native speaker and doing your best with no doubt a Japanese-German dictionary. One of Natsune's abilities is Gehirn Schlag, which literally translates out to "Brain Blow"-- blow like a strike. Whether they meant that to mean a hit to the head or her doing the wrestling move Brainbuster is open to interpretation, but it turns out "Gehirnschlag" DOES mean something specific in German... and translates out to a stroke! Probably not what they meant when they chose their German words!

How would you spell correctly 'Socks' in this particular case ?
>>7812949
Could be. I'll resume work on the game in a couple hours, so I'll check the stats. High movement stats could be the developers actually meant "cherub", Final-Fantasy style (after all there already is Genji Armor for Chiaki)
>>7812850
Because the specific use of german, albeit broken, is meant for the game's lore. I've kept some specifically japanese terms as-is for the same reasons (such as Hama Yumi or some samurai techniques)
Correcting a bit the spelling can't be wrong, though ! (like I did for Blade Knight or Laetitia)
>>7813165
Typical "Gelman" ! That's kind of funny. Maybe something akin to "mind blow" would be better ? How would you translate it ?

I can't believe we're actually having some interesting cross-language references and linguistic debates over a game that is, well, mostly based on booba. That's pretty much the definition of what "based" should mean ! Anyway, thanks to all german-speaking anons for your input. It's really appreciated !

I have roughly 80% of techniques/ennemies name translated in Lakers 2. Lakers 1 is completed but I may make some edits for the sake of consistency. Still have a doubt on how the baddies should be called ("Gadram" for Lakers 1, "Gildar" or Gildos" for Lakers 2) as here is no official romanization. I've even seriously considered using the OAV's infamously bad localization as a base at a point...

Some stuff had to be modified or cut (the "secret technique" and "ougi" prefixes, the chinese sacred azure dragon becoming blue, a few abbreiations) because of the limited space. I've tried my best to keep it as accurate as possible, and to carry the same terms between episodes. The good news is that I've managed to translate the last of the main executable texts (damage input, critical hits) without breaking anything.

I've been curious for a while, and if I got this right, it's 鷲ノ羽学園. Which, depending on how you prefer to name your Japanese schools, could either be translated as something like Washinoha Acadamy, or for the full english as "Eagle's Feather Acadamy"

Or so. I don't speak the language and just plonk Japanese into Google.

The last piece of gelman equipment is here. If anybody has a clue how to transcribe "ヴェクセル・バルク" ("wekuseru baruku") and "シュピール・ウーア" (supiiru uua), you'll have my eternal gratefulness.
All the rest of the techs/equipment/ennemies are translated. Most are in katakana english so it's kinda easy. Now I just need to get rid of some nasty bugs (in-battle messages disappearing) and then time for a full playthrough.

Taikou Risshiden 2.
It's based on Toyotomi Hideyoshi story in Sengoku era.
You start as Kinoshita Tokichirou (Hideyoshi's former name), one of the lowest rank officer in Oda clan.
Each month, Nobunaga holds an assembly and issues taks for the officers.
Task like selling rice, buying rice, buying horse, buying muskets, soldier training, castle building, doing farm, etc.
You gain EXP from those tasks and get promoted after reaching certain amount of EXP.
You will be assigned special tasks when the game reaches certain point like building Sunomata castle in a night, recruiting Takenaka Hanbei, Battle of Kanegasaki, etc.
Eventually you'll be a lord when Akechi Mitsuhide betrays Nobunaga.
Game ends when you've conquered all enemy clans.
It's Koei game.

OP here. Finished techniques and ennemies in Lakers 3, but now I must solve some gamebreaking problems. Using special techs seems to kill ennemies (you get the exp reward) but after the attack, they're still here, with full HP. Some of them become invisible. And your character's sprite is swapped with an enemy. Next turn, sprites are back to normal.

I'm not at all a programmer, so I really hope it's just a stupid mistake I made while hex-editing the main files. Otherwise I'll just leave the part that triggers this behaviour alone, without editing it.

It very much comes down to the ease with which vaporwave-adjacent OOC images from the nicer looking games (often erotic) have spread vs. those which look mundane but rely less on said porn or are more text-based.

Pair that with how easy it is to stereotype these games as all "weird and quirky" and many will just assume it's a porn machine vs. something more historied.

it being body-armor, calling it "Changeling" isn't that far-fetched, imho, at least in terms of vidya-japanese-german.

I understand your point. Nevertheless, being complety accurate would mean keeping "blarde" knight and "kunfu" laker. I don't think correcting broken language goes on the same league as inserting Clinton jokes into the script like Working Designs did, though. But hey, translating stuff means making choices, and I don't think there's an universal solution that would please anyone in this typical case.

That being said, I'm not satisfied either about this particular piece of armor. I'm really looking foward to check the extras menu about it. Sometimes a little context can help a lot. Consider the current name as a placeholder until I've got something more accurate with the author's intention.

Translations that are more accurately just transliterations or are very overly literal are never good. They are in fact shit and incredibly autistic. This has been accepted in translation theory since the 16th century. It's only beginning language students that think they can do faithful translations better than everybody else who already realized that literal translations don't work for a variety of reasons.

difference is "Wechselbalg" has a meaning, "Wässerbalg" does not and is actually pure nonsense gibberish.
But then it's not my translation-hack and the anon can use whatever.

Whelp, I finally found a way to prepare the save disk.
There's an option in the game to prepare it.
This option is not available in the main menu.
Now I can save the game into a disk.
I copied one of the FDI and make it a save disk.

I also found the Power Up Kit disks.
It adds 2 scenarios: scenario 0 (1534) birth of Nobunaga and scenario 4 (1583) after Nobunaga died.

Well, guess what. Nothing about the armor in the extras menu. Just a music test, cg viewer, karaoke mode and a cool battle mode that lets you replay any mission.
Anyway, I'm putting the final touches to the patch. As with the other two games, the extras menu will be unlocked, but I'll throw some extras : a walkthrough for the date sim part and a 100% savegame that lets you watch all endings (the ending special h-cgs are not avaliable in the extras menu).

I've been unable to get video out from my PC-98 to this PC98 Mate monitor, similar looking Spectrum analog RGB cables have five pins per row which I'm familiar with and so I'm not sure if this is because of a faulty cable or if there are only four pins on each row intentionally for PC-98 analog RGB.

Any other PC-98 owners chiming in would be greatly appreciated

For my PC98 I had to get an adapter to convert it from if I recall correctly 13 pin to 11 pin. I think you can jury rig it by just making a makeshift adapter that rearranged the position of the pins, but I forget where I saw that. The pc98 subreddit might've had a guide on it. But for myself I had just bought an adapter for X-Pin to Y-Pin. So yeah there's a different number of pins but I think if you just change the number and arrangement it works.

>> No.7841492

>>7841393
Thanks for your input. I did a bit more reading and am no longer convinced it's entirely a pin issue but have not ruled it out, the monitor seems to flash amber constantly after power on which I assumed was standby/no video but apparently with these older monitors can also be a sign of a internal fault.
