Same here. Sonic was my main draw to the Genesis and when the Saturn released without a Sonic 3D Platformer I had no interest in owning one as a result. That was definitely Segas biggest fuckup with the Saturn, it should have been absolutely absurdly obvious to them that Sonic was their system seller, to not only release the console without him but give him no representation whatsoever outside of Genesis ports and a shitty Racing game is fucking peak retardation.

all these fabled jap exclusive Saturn games literally do not exist. 99% of the exclusive games were given American releases with the exception being a bunch of shumps no one played, and like 5-6 fighting games that required the ram carts. every "killer app" the Saturn supposedly had got an American release they were all just shit no one gave a fuck about. all the other jap only games were ps1 multiplats, that didn't get released here because the Saturn had no install base and it wasn't worth the money to bring over more than the ps1 version

This was literally the kind of game that I would dream about. A gorgeous 2D Beat em Up but with more complexity, Fighting game style special moves, magic, light RPG elements, Minion buddy, branching paths, choices, etc. Never thought something like that would be made since all having to add and balance all that stuff must be very costly and a pain in the ass, plus the main Beat em Up audience seems to prefer simplicity so there's no target audience or at there is at least only a small niche inside an already small niche that would buy it. Yet it exists and I couldn't be any happier.

Asuka 120 LimitOver is a really excellent Fighting game if you favor rushdown style. Ran out of space due to character limit.

Bomberman Wars (Bomberman SRPG. PS1 version has a translation patch)
Riglord Saga 2 (sequel to Mystaria/Blazing Heroes)
Linda Cube
Waku Waku Puyo Puyo Dungeon (roguelike/Mystery Dungeon spinoff of the Madou Monogatari/Puyo Puyo games)
Far East of Eden: The 4th Apocalypse (spinoff of the Far East of Eden/Tengai Makyo games. Instead of taking place in a wacky parody anachronistic version of feudal Japan, it takes place in a wacky parody anachronistic version of gilded age America)
Slayers Royal 1&2 (pair of SRPGs based on Slayers)
Soldnerschild (SRPG)
Farland Story & Farland Saga (SRPG series)
Langrisser 3
Baroque (kinda like a first-person DRPG/roguelike hybrid, with real-time combat. Remade in English on PS2/Wii, but with a third-person view instead of a first-person view)
Sword & Sorcery (localized for the 3DO of all places under the name Lucienne's Quest)

There's plenty more that what I've mentioned, but I'm sleepy and don't feel like looking up more games right now. I forgot to mention earlier that Langrisser 4 does have a translation patch for the PS1 version. And Shadows of the Tusk has Xband online multiplayer (that remarkably still works to this day, since it's peer-to-peer)

These kind of games were absurdly popular during 5th gen thanks to FFVII, what the fuck was Sega of America thinking in refusing to bring these over to the USA? They would have made a killing and sold millions of Saturns. How the hell could they look at the success of FFVII and not realize the goldmine they were sitting on? None of the decisions Sega made after the Genesis make any goddamn sense.

Is this the only good game to use digitized actors? It's usually an extremely good indicator that the game is going to suck.

Lol. It wasn't that bad. Double jumping was a lot harder than it had to be.

Catering to... well, I was gonna say "dudebros that only play sports shit", but honestly, I don't even know who Sega of America was trying to cater to, or who their target audience was. It's like they forsook their weeb fanbase (at the fucking commercial peak of JRPGs as a genre) without planning another fanbase demographic to focus on.

Is it worth it to pick up Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers if I already have Fighters Megamix?

part 2 and 3 just got english patches

>> No.7819292

Virtua Fighter 2 looks three times as good and plays twice as smooth, and actually has some more moves which are missing from Megamix (all stand-up attacks are missing from Megamix). Plus it also keeps a steady 60fps while Megamix slows down often on stages with walls.

Vipers... eh, only if you really, REALLY like the Vipers characters in Megamix. Also, get the japanese version at least, it has Pepsiman.

That's what I was thinking. I never had a Saturn as a kid or anything, so I won't have any sentimental value for collecting for it. Is it pretty straightforward?

I think so.
>I never had a Saturn as a kid or anything
Me either, but I had an N64, so it's like playing something from an alternate reality where the 5th gen went in a totally different direction. It also has a criminally underrated and untranslated library.
