I only played "gen" red n' blue. I owned and 100% both. When I heard they were making more games I wasn't too excited just to do the same thing again. Its not like anything changes to the game play. The formula is always the same. Catch, train, battle and repeat. Becuase of this I had no interest to play another. To me its the same game each game. Adding / replacing items, pokemon & characters while updating the graphics doesn't make it a different game. That's like saying Solitare on windows 3.1 is a different game then Solitare on windows 10. I think people should stop referneing to Pokémon games as "generation" or "series" as "version" is much more fitting.

They're pretty late on in the game. They're also kind of a goddamn bitch to catch, because of Perish Song. At least they were when I captured one in Gen 5, where they appear wild at around Lv. 40 or higher, I don't remember if I ever even caught one back in Gen 2, that was long as fuck ago.

I think most series are like that, it just depends on what appeals more. I loved the first game, 100% Blue and then Yellow and just wanted more. Which Gold and Silver certainly delivered. Yeah it's more of the same kind pf thing but it's more fleshed out, there are more monsters and strategies etc. After that it felt like diminishing returns with Ruby, Sapphire etc even if I thought they were still good games.

But like I say most series are like that it just depends what you like. To me I was mostly done with Mario after the first game, I've just never found platformers all that compelling. 2 was my favorite but I was never really itching for more. I played 3 less and could count on my hands the number of times I've played World or any game since. Not that I doubt their quality but to me all platformers feel pretty samey in a way that never grabbed me much.

All this is just to say that both our opinions are fine but I'd give more weight to someone who actually likes Mario over me and likewise with Pokemon and someone who only mildly got into it.

That sounds like fucking crazy talk to me becuase Mario 3 is a work of art. Do you really consider ANY Pokémon game to be a work of art? I'm not trying to attack you but I really want to know how you can compare the two? Pokémon as popular as it was during its hayday will never be on the same level Mario. You're entitled to your opinion but I strongly disagree. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Only if you want to spend a shitton of money and do it the most autistically authentic way possible, sure. There's a lot of shortcuts you could take here with homebrew/flashcarts, IMO.
>>7812842

>buy two games
>now buy game 1.5 to get variants
Buy one game and a flash cart for the others. Or just do it for all three honestly (I don't think you need the original cart for 4 -> 5 or 3 -> 4)
>now buy this spinoff to get one legendary
That shit was all over GTS in the day. If you never gone one, worst case you could PkHex inject an authentic Manaphy from a Project Pokemon rip of it. Same as real deal

>now play 5 full-length GBA games and catch everything that isn't in the DS games
Unfortunately true
>now play 2 gamecube games that are slow as fucking molasses to get through, including massive purification grind, the most fucktarded capture system in the series history, and an extra mode with 100 fucking battles
Extra 100 battles is not entirely necessary if you rely on PkHex again. IMO there's no foul in injecting wonder cards or event pokemon into your games. Not everyone in the US could go to fucking Dallas for SpaceC Deoxys. Injecting a PkHex event version won't look any different and should count. Same goes for Eon ticket for Ho-Oh and Lugia. If you get Ho-Oh through an event ticket injection, you don't need Mt. Battle nor XD's playthrough at all.
>now find a Japanese game with the legendaries that were basically never released at all in the west (or import the JP Colosseum pre-order bonus disk, oh yeah you need to get the western one too because FUCK YOU)
Spending $150 on a Jirachi disk and doing a second playthrough (plus cost of JP game plus disk) for Colosseum is pants on head retarded.
Get a Wii (I got one for $10), load up Nintendon't, which can natively interface with GBA - GCN link, and run the JIrachi disk on it for you US save.

I never stopped liking Pokemon until this last Gen.
Gen 1 is magic, the limitations and the fact that htere was no world.
Gen 2 is a lazy expansion but it rides the intertia so it's all good.
Gen 3 expanded on the original idea and began to form what is modern pokemon, it felt fresh.
Gen 4 was just an expansion of that, lazy but it worked because of inertia.
Gen 5, totally new world, new story felt fresh but hindered by the graphcs and style.
Gen 6. lazy rehash but the 3D graphics saved it since it was new.
Gen 7. same gameplay super lazy but the island settings saved it despite being handholdy as shit.
Gen 8. it didn't have any real gimmicks to save it anymore it just safe and predictable.

So pokemon had been coasting for many gens now and a few gimmicks helped it stay relevant but really it's only gen1 and 3 where it felt like they cared.

Interesting. To me Gen 1 was a great idea that was fun but rough around the edges. Gen 2 polished it and produced a great game with tons to do. Gen 3 was more of the same with some additions that were nice but not game changing. Gen 4 was more of the same and good in it's own right but more of the same so I beat but didn't 100% it. The only other thing I can think of for why people liked it was that you played as an edgelord stealing pokemon from more bigger, more retarded-looking edgelords, and it had espeon and umbreon as main starters, meaning all the furries could beat their meat to the idea of driving around arizona with their favorite fuckmons. Take away everything that makes a game fun, stretch the boring parts and the number crunching for hours and hours, add some weird weeb story to justify the numbers that go up, you have a JRPG.

I'm kinda on the same train but I'm trying to complete the dex in my Silver cart since I recently replaced the battery.
Without trading or completing the Gen 1 games, you can get up to 190 or 199 in Silver alone so I'm using the coin case glitch to get the Gen 1 legendaries and starters, Celebi, trade evos, and Gold exclusives.
Did the cloning glitch to get all the Johto starters and will clone the evo stones since you just get one of each.
