Let me know about the weirdest or most obscure games you know of. Weirder and more obscure the better. Less sales, the better.

I owned one of the least popular Commodores. I'm trying to remember. Zodiac was pretty weird. I'm probably the only person on this board that played it. Apart from Mastertronic (game publisher) they weren't fun games for some reason, they were really deep and meaningful, uncompromising. Bleak.

Clan Lord
http://www.deltatao.com/clanlord/index.html
A graphical MUD that was 5 years behind the times when they released it in 1998.
Not a very good or impressive game. You bump into object to attack/interact them with. Ranged combat is virtually non-existent and the 3 classes are Fighter, Healer and "Mystic".
Mystic does not throw fire balls but instead solves puzzles or "dispels" illusions.

NPCs understand less of what you type than in a full fledged MMO like Ultima Online and the game feels like it runs at 20 FPS.

It started off as Mac Only for a while until they ported the client to Java.

It has a fairly small community these days. I think it peaked around 300 players online at the same time.

There was this one called Save the Gweeks, which I can't even find a screenshot for so I made an MS paint with some of the things from my memory.
The game had these green guys on the ground of different landscapes who would walk around being attacked by aliens/UFOs (I think) and you were this silver ball that went around saving them / shooting the aliens. IIRC you controlled a bit like a lander and followed the mouse and shot in the direction of the mouse cursor.

Fishin’ Frenzy is an Atari arcade game that never made it past the prototype phase. It plays pretty similarly to the fishing mini game in the Game Boy Advance port of DKC.

It’s one of those games you find in a big MAME rom set and play out of curiosity. It’s actually kind of fun. The sheer fear in the goofy Jamaican narrator’s voice when the sea monster is about to show up makes me laugh every time. But I can’t imagine it attracting too much attention in a crowded arcade, they probably just hoped to use up a bunch of rotting Jaguar hardware.

>most obscure games you know
know is a funny word
i remember seeing some game, i dont even know where, and i have zero idea what system it was for
if i had to guess, the colors and overall look suggested it was a sega master system game, and judging by the subject matter id assume if it was an old 8-bit sega game, it was most likely for the mark III only (JPs SMS)

the style of the game was weird as hell
i guess you could call it a platformer version of space harrier
ie your character (some samurai lookin dude) was running into the screen on these platforms and making jumps at platforms that were further in the distance

the idea of the game was to simply move forward, platforming until you got to the end of the stage easier said than done due to how weird the perspective on the fake-3D was
the "twist" was if you fell off the side, or missed a jump, youd fall into the underworld. the underworld was pitch black, except for the platforms, and loaded with demons
if you fell off the platforms down there, you wouldnt die, but would instead take constant damage (while still getting fucked by all the demons)
the stage was still possible to complete once in the underworld, but it was much MUCH harder

does anyone have any fucking clue what im talking about?

>kinda like 3d world runner but. not.
exactly
the 3d effect was very crude, not nearly as smooth as 3d world runner (which is what makes me think its an 8-bit game)
considering how few 8-bit games had a 3rd person 3d perspective like that, youd think it would be obvious
but i only vaguely remember seeing the game once, and idk where

the theme of falling off into the underworld reminds me of that one PCE game that arino played on GCCX in like season 7 or 8 its the nip version of samurai ghost. idk the nip name but it had a separate top down level not in the TGFX-16 where if you fucked up youd fall into the underworld
i KNOW its not that game, but for some reason the sprites and colors in that game remind me of this one, in addition to the underworld theme

yea i guess its not that obscure
more people should play it though
its a tight little game
its kind of a long game for the fact it doesnt have any save/password function, but its still beatable in under 2 hrs

another not-so-obscure one, that isnt posted ITT yet, that more people should play is front mission: gun hazard
its a nip only sidescrolling ARPG (i guess) made by prime-era squaresoft. the first front mission is pretty cool too, but its just a mech based fire emblem rip-off

the second one is far more unique, and i cant really think of another game thats even similar
the fan translation ive been playing is really well done, and due to its much more action-oriented playstyle, its basically a 90s square JRPG for people that hate 90s square JRPGs
you can customize your mech in between battles, and after the intro, you become a merc and can challenge many different stages in whatever order youd like
just a really cool game
now i happen to enjoy the mid-90s JRPGs in general, but i wish this game was more of a hit so that wed have seen more other games try to rip it off. its certainly not just another DQ rip-off

i played Zodiac in a German department store in the 80's; it was a Shamus clone, and the 12 star signs of the Zodiac were pickups; key items. When your little not-Shamus dude got vaporized his hat dropped to the floor like a leaf in autumn.

it looked like a C64 game though, i didn't think the Plus4 supported multicolor sprites.

i enjoyed it; stealth puzzle game that revolves around a body-hopping mechanic. Cool world and character designs.

Kind of? All the text is translated but the UI and items are not, you need to look up the translations in a separate file. Playable but janky.

Britain's Sunday Times newspaper has revealed a cover-up in the death of writer Harry Horse and his wife, Mandy, which was initially passed off as a suicide pact in a cottage at Papil, 25 minutes from Lerwick, on the Scottish island of Burra.

When the bodies were found in January last year, published reports suggested they had died in each other's arms after taking painkillers, and they were buried together.

But the two New Zealanders, whose names were not published by the Sunday Times, said Horse, 47, was roaming the house, proclaiming: "It's a wonderful night for a killing."

His wife was distressed, and did not want the friends to leave, the newspaper reported. At 9.40am the next day, January 10, the friends returned to retrieve an item of clothing, but on opening the front door they found the two bodies on Mandy's bed, with blood on the floor, windows and walls.

Horse had stabbed her 30 times with such ferocity the blade broke from the handle of the knife inside her body and he collected a second knife to continue the attack. Her arms were covered in defensive injuries sustained as she tried to fight him off.

Leaving her to bleed to death, Horse then killed their dog, a chihuahua Mandy liked to cuddle, and their cat before turning the knife on himself, slashing his arms and mutilating his genitals, as he stabbed himself 47 times.

I've only heard of Pencil Whipped many years ago. The other ones were new to me. I think I'll try to find that Oshioki Kirai!2 game -maybe it will be a difficult finding?
