You can't fit a retroid in your pocket either, unless you're rocking a fanny pack like some kind of queer. The popup joysticks would prevent you from putting it in your pants pocket without risking the device. And for someone who's concern is "shitty emulation" you sure seem eager to deal with using bad emulators on an android device.

>> No.7793526

Retroid interests me, but I hate that the analog is the primary input and the ZL/ZR buttons should have been analog triggers. Why the fuck would you make analog the primary, when N64 & Dreamcast are the only ones that'll take advantage of it. And don't claim they did it for PS1, cause if they did, they wouldn't have gimped the 2nd stick. Yellow and jungle green are tight color choices. Also how'd they fuck up the dpad, when they could have simply replicated the SNES molding... here's to hoping 3 gets it right.

Emulation is low quality. I mean you'll get fullspeed but I can't at all seem to get perfect frame pacing or audio on most things. The interface is terrible amd cumbersome. It crashes a lot (half the time on boot in will lock up and the rumble gets stuck on). The buttons aren't terrible but have that distinct, cheap third party controller feel. And the resolution isn't high enough to make adequate use of interpolation shaders so you still get scrolling shimmer/have to blur the fuck out of it when not playing at integer scale

Except for very minor squeeking in my dpad and stick, the hardware is solid. MicroSDs are supposed to be cheap as fuck, but I'll wait till they croak.

Emuelec is garbage, install 351Elec or other firmware.
RGA shader is good, but "2x-prescale-sharp-bilinear" shader is supposedly better and I would tend to agree.

input lag is the only one anybody cares about, and that is only affected by the OS, and this isn't a damn TV so screen response time doesn't matter, it's always going to be as fast as the OS can go. the other shit is subjective so nobody cares.

>> No.7795982

>>7795959
>this isn't a damn TV so screen response time doesn't matter, it's always going to be as fast as the OS can go
The OS has nothing to do with it. Response time is going to determine how much blur the screen has, particularly on scrolling games.
If the handheld supports a web browser you can go here and see if the test works to get a really rough idea of motion blur.

https://www.testufo.com/

Or you could try playing back the same test video at the same time on two different devices as an easy way to see which had better performance.

>> No.7795994

>>7795959
>and that is only affected by the OS
This is incorrect. Different emulators have different amounts of lag. If could get run-ahead going on a handheld it would help just as much as it would anywhere else. I don't know if anything out right now short of maybe a Nvidia Shield or a Switch has the juice to do even NES run-ahead.

If I can beat every PSP Armored Core game on a bluetooth controller synched to an Android phone, bluetooth/android/various other imaginary sources of lag must not be enough of a problem that you need a separate device for it. Don't waste money on garbage that you won't even have pocket space for, cargo pants aren't cool.

Phone emulation was only a joke when Dalvik was the Android runtime, which is like ordinary Java and slowly interpreted with delay (ie compiled live during run). All modern Android phones are using ART, which precompiles it like non-Java software, so the meme's been dead for years and nobody told you guys.
