What the fuck happened to this board? Shenmue and Yakuza are two different games, fundamentally. The only thing that links the two is that they present a virtual japan for the player to move about in. Aside from that, they are different. I'm not going to debate which one is better because they're not going for the same experience. However I will say it is idiotic to have this pointless bickering over the two.

it's amazing how bad people are at shenmue, i recently had my gf play through both of them and she never had to wait around or wasted a single day, managed to get everywhere on time
she had more trouble with 2 since the map is way bigger but still literally never had to use the wait function once, although i had to unlock the duck races for her

Nothing has ever topped Yokosuka in Shenmue 1 for me.
You can tell how much detail and effort went into building Shenmue 1's city compared to any of the locations in Shenmue 2. Not to say Shenmue 2's locations weren't also very detailed or that they were rushed, it's just that it's clear they didn't have the laser-focus detail that Yokosuka had put into it.

At the time this was basically the invention of an open world game, the gameplay itself being you could actually be in an open world. The immersion was the gameplay and experience, but other than that its a slow paced character fuelled cinematic experience that is niche when compared to games as a whole.
