What /vr/ thinks about classic edition/mini consoles?

>> No.7789659

It's a scam for normalfags who absolutely need a piece of plastic near them to play games.

>> No.7789680

Convenient at MRSP cheap way for people to have an emulation box without having to set up a Pi. After all always get hacked after a short while.

Input lag lol.

>> No.7789789

A hacked SNES mini with wireless 8bitdo controllers is fucking awesome. I've brought retro gaming to my neices and nephews using it and they're hooked. Lots of great kid friendly snes and nes titles to choose from, and even some CPS arcade games

I want to get a TurboGrafix-16 mini because I know nothing about that system or its games, and it seems like a fun way to check it out, but I dont feel like paying 250 for it.

>> No.7789793

>>7789653
Literally bought for the controllers, it's an input lag machine

>> No.7789797

I like them, especially hacked. Mostly because of the novelty of having a nice reproduction controller, charming UI and whatever other features it might offer. Pi emulation really isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'd rather go for a cheap laptop booting into Retroarch if I wanted the benefits of better emulators on my TV.

>> No.7789890

it's a plastic model, like those figures /a/ buys
it can play games too but that's more of a bonus

As a fun tchochke? Sure. I got the Neo Geo Minis to goof with and eventually just warm a shelf. Otherwise? They shit compared to emulators of all kinds. The Neo Geo emulation on the mini is worse than my $50 dollar anbernic.

I love it. It makes poorfags/MiSTershills seethe though. I had just recently hacked my Sega Genesis mini after figuring out what went wrong. Since upgrading to Windows 10, my PC wasn't recognizing my Sega Genesis mini(or my SNES mini for that matter). I had to download a program that would allow my PC to recognize my mini consoles and now I have all the games I want on my Sega Genesis mini. I'm still trying to figure out how to implement Game Genie codes without using RetroArch.

Yeah it's weird they didn't stick to the 4-button layout. Consensus is they planned to add some Capcom fighters, so they made sure to have six, but idk if this ever came to fruition.

I love my Arcade Stick Pro. Way better than the neo geo mini. I wish I could add ROMs to the internal memory because I'm really just missing Windjammers from the stock 40 games and hylostick is ugly and buggy.

Because these things do have significant input lags. I do understand that emulation or real hardware also have it, but it's unnoticeable. I've played on friend's PCE Mini, SNES Mini and Mega Drive Mini and Iemme tell ya, all three of them have significant input lag, even on modern displays. Also - fuck MiSTer and that fag who forces this memebox.

I'm more of a shmup guy and this 16ms makes a lot of difference. I'm used to original hardware and twice the latency fucks with my muscle memory to the point I play the same game like a retarded noob on a Mini console. Seriously, these Mini consoles could have avoided this issue very easily but Nintendo, Sega and Konami just don't give a shit.

Wouldn't a poorfag be the one that buy that version instead of the non-mini consoles and their games(not one that has games on its memory)?

>> No.7792907

Outside of them perceiving it to be worth their time or not, is there a valid reason why they couldn't produce a modern version of the mainboard, and do a re-run of the original consoles? If they threw in an extra board with a memory manager and a wifi chip, they could just hijack the disc drive, similar to the Satiator, and sell roms on an e-store without even having to modify how the console fundamentally operates.

You can't make this shit up.

>> No.7793170

Too much input delay. A lot of them don't scale correctly, or have any sort of interpolation. Form factor is cute but too small to look anything but awkward on a media center. Limited selection of titles

They're great for getting modern OEM controllers for use with a proper emulation machine though

>> No.7793204

Sega Genesis Mini price is about $40-60 and you get 42 roms with 2 original joystick replicas, Sega Genesis Classics with 50 roms for PC or console price is $30, so mini is more worth to buy.

I just dont get the whole 'mini' aspect. Like if they were still emulation boxes but were full, 1 to 1 physical recreations of the consoles then they'd look a whole lot nicer in a setup

Not him, but here are my reasons...

>These console minis are modeled after the game consoles I grew up with, which is a plus for me.
>I can hack and modify it, plus add more roms than what it came with.
>I can even add roms that were modded such as Super Sonic in Sonic The Hedgehog 1 or Naked Blaze.
>I can even add roms that I moddified permament Game Genie codes with(Robocop Vs Terminator for the Sega Genesis certainly needed that)
>The user interface.

>Comes with USB controllers, so definitely a must-have.

False. It confirms that I'm not a "manchild" because I'm actually taking care of my responsibilities and being a responsible adult instead of being someone like (you) dwelling in your parents basement and living off them.

Besides, wouldn't that make (you) a manchild just by posting on /vr/ talking about retro video games? This forum is for people who are passionate about old video games and consoles. If you don't have that, then get the fuck out.

Cause i didn't really hop on the train right away to be honest.

But the Genesis mini works well for what it is. I mean you can add space to it with USB sticks,
Add retroarch,
Play Sega Cd games and shit on it.

I enjoy it for what it is. A cool little machine designed to play Genesis games with a cool menu.
