An external mod chip with GameShark capability. Used to have one as a kid, came with a spring for the disk tray needed to swap games and what not, anyway Google ps1 external mod chip.

considering the installation of Xstation, I'm sure not many people want to get it

You still have to solder to install a PSIO, it's just not AS complicated.

And even then, depending on your PS1 revision your soldering task might go up in complexity anyway (although still not as bad as an Xstation install).

I think I'd much prefer soldering to the board as a newbie than lifting pins from the main chip

and you'd find codes for it in gaming magz. good times

It's a parallel port. You hook your printer up to it so you can print from your PlayStation.

I'm amazed no one has yet made a dedicated tool just for cutting pins on qfp chips

I don’t know. It was my first major solder project and it found it easy enough. PS1Digital on the other hand I don’t know if I feel comfortable doing that one.

No you didn’t, because the link cable used the serial I/O port, not the parallel I/O port.

If you gather several consoles and remove this unit from each of them, then you can gather up the removed units, heat them to a VERY high temperature such that they melt, vent the toxic gases emanating from the resulting slurry, pour the remainder into a cylindrical mold with a rounded end, let the mass cool, coat it in some kind of food-safe sealant, and stick it up your butt. It will then feel pretty good as you move it back and forth (make sure you use lots of lube).

You plug in one of these and can play imports and burned games.

>> No.7793287

I used this to load my burned / imported games no problem. Why pay for a modchip when I can pay like 10 bucks for a gameshark that loads to this? WAY more worth it than doing that swap trick method that took ages to learn. This is insta load without the hassle. I hate that they removed it and many don't regard it as something that's worth it when it comes to loading games. Now i need to buy an expensive modchip when a stack of 100 cds costs about 20? I don't need ALL ps1 games on an sd card when I'm only going to play like 5? lol.

Every PS1 in Brazil came with those modchips(no swap trick required, too). It took a long time until you could find a PS1 that was not modded here. Weird, but great, times.

Same thing here in colombia, I actually used to think that black CD-Rs with offset print were the originals when I was a kid.

Did anyone figure out how to swap discs when using these? As a kid I couldn't beat MGS because it wouldn't start disc 2.
