>Marble Garden has a brand new boss for Knuckles since Tails is required for Sonic's, and other bosses are tweaked to be more difficult
>Carnival Night Zone is a ridiculously short path underneath the level and doesn't even have a boss at the end of act 2
Why did they put so much effort into Knuckles' playthrough only to put next to no effort into Carnival Night Zone?

those proto dumps indicate that sonic 3k had a pretty tight development time, so they probably just didn't have the time to flesh it out. like how tails almost has no exclusive areas

I forgot about that. I've done the opposite before and glitched Sonic into Knuckles' route before in CNZ, and I'm pretty sure I've done it in Marble Garden too. The rest of them require debug mode I'm pretty sure

Knuckles lives on Angel Island, he probably knows about most of the areas in the game

I think Knuckles route is just plain unfinished. It's not the only severely truncated level. And even with no Death Egg, he could have gotten a more extensive Sky Sanctuary Zone in its place, at the END of which the boss could be fought, but they didn't bother there either.

I just played through it a few hours ago and didn't notice any levels other than CNZ being horribly shorter than normal, besides Hidden Palace Zone which is a glorified cutscene anyway. Plus Sky Sanctuary seemed to have been destroyed in Sonic's route. Would've been better to give him a level there anyway though. Sonic's route in general seems much more focused, having an actual story with a big extended ending sequence starting at the end of Lava Reef.

Flying Battery doesn't even have knuckles routes at all.

To be fair, that Eggman sprite was unique compared to the normal one and I guess their sprite-layering trick with Eggrobo just didn't work for it.

I actually got a glitch to happen a couple times in Mushroom Hill where Eggman and Eggrobo would flicker in and out of each other during the boss fight.

Yeah, something about that boss is really glitchy. I've never seen them flicker in and out of each other but I've fought Eggman there, and I've also had Eggman/Eggrobo appear when you destroy the satellite dish and then the other one is suddenly driving once you transition into the actual boss fight

Apparently that happens most commonly after you lose a life since the game respawns you near the boss faster than it can patch in the Eggrobo sprite
