i personally think its a meme, but you gotta get extra shit for consoles to work.
But idk i got the Sega Mini with shitloads of Genesis games on it. Never once did i ever feel like

>You know i think i would have .000005 % more latency on a CRT

Enjoy your games how you enjoy them. I'll just be enjoying the light from a crt beamed into my retinas. There's just something about them that can't be replicated with modern screens.

Other than the looks, laglessness, and nostalgia of a CRT, you also generally don't need any fancy upscalers, adapters, or cables to hook up to a CRT. Also many high end models have really good sounding speakers.

If you want to truly experience how they were meant to be seen, then yes. The developers used CRTs and even utilized them to "mask" (not to be confused with shadow mask, but that's ancillary to the topic) limitations in the graphics and to even have them "marry" in a way and make each other whole.
>Do some emulators have good filters that look just like a CRT?
you might ask.
The honest answer is no, but you can get sort of close, but with CRTs still hanging on, you'd be a fool to not take advantage of the current situation and experience it the right way because WE ALL will be forced to use something other than a CRT one of these coming years.

I just picked one up to play on original hardware and it's a nice thing to have for platformers. Might be the difference between actually playing old games and scrolling through a ROM collection. Technically, kinda yes, the whole point of adding the anti-aliasing filter was to smooth out the image. The effect works best on a 240p CRT. With the console's resolution and anti-aliasing, it's going to look like shit blown up on any other resolution or on a flat screen, making it even blurrier than it otherwise would be. Playing it on a TV of its time actually looks good.

It's not necessary at all, but I highly recommend it if you want to have the best experience with those games since those were the displays they were designed for. Especially rhythm games like Parappa, Taiko no Tatsujin, and Donkey Konga. Older games look a lot better on CRTs and they play better thanks to the lack of input lag. However, if you don't wanna go through the effort of finding a cheap one, you can totally play them on an LCD and still have fun, but you can definitely feel the difference when playing on CRT. I knew instantly when I found I was spin jumping early in Super Mario Sunshine to account for input lag after playing it on an LCD for so many years.
