What's your claim to retro gaming "fame", /vr/?
Did you ever set a high score?
A world record?
Discover something no one else had?
Me, I was the first person on the internet to discover Totaka's Song in Wario Land VB. It isn't much, but it makes me feel a little better about myself sometimes.
Just a teensy bit.

I remembered that Twisted Metal Black had a secret button code to make Raven pop out of her car with a machinegun, blasting at nearby enemies, and also while showing her titties (so not the same as her widely known alternate special attack, where she does this fully dressed).
This was never well documented, and it's difficult to find much reference to it online at all, it's not mentioned on any fan wikis or cheat sites (or wasn't, haven't checked recently), beyond a thread on NeoGaf from over a decade ago.

It's like, you hold down the shoulder buttons, and then tap triangle three times, or it was up on the D-pad three times.

Not even a discovery, as much as it's remembering an old easter egg that the world never noticed, not even the Twisted Metal fandom.

I don't know if what I did sped up the process of getting the ROMs out but it's possible. Originally they were planning to release it alongside a translated rom (for a fucking demo with like one cutscene that wasn't accessible) around a month after they got it but the roms ended up dropping like a week or two after they got it instead. The roms were posted by some vindictive guy, don't really know what his problem was with the group exactly but he definitely seemed to be doing it to spite them. I think the story goes he forced/blackmailed/tricked someone in the group into handing over the roms

I just found out the hard way that the PS2 version of picture related has a glitch where you can't get 100% completion because the alternate paths in some levels that only open as you progress through the game stay locked no matter what, and it's never been documented because there's barely any discussion of the game on the internet to begin with.

It's not bad, but it's fairly basic and I'm not sure if it's fully complete. It's a gravity cave flier game where you go around in a rocketship blowing up varied enemy buildings and turrets, refueling&repairing at launch pads, and you have a machinegun and a slowly recharging single shot cannon.

All in all it's a bit cursed kek, it was probably originally distributed around old BBSes or passed around a university of floppies, and I've never found even a mention online about it.

As for me, I have a fully formed Quake mod that I and a friend make in college in the late 00s using quark. a full campaign sequence of about 25 levels and a hub world. I can't speak for the quality of the levels, but it's probably be considered ok because myself, my friend, and several other people have played the levels and liked them. I have a few random ones most people never believe but I don't care.

1ccd both Star Wars Arcade and Space Harrier on Master System the first time I played them. Took me ages afterwards somehow to get consistent with SH again which I now think it funny cause it seems braindead now. Maybe SW Arcade is the same I only played it a few times in the arcade and only beat it the first time.

Found a glitch in Tomb Raider that lets you skip almost the entire Colosseum. No one seemed to care but that was pre speed running and now I can't be bothered to remember.

Was so good at Starsiege Tribes I had to change my name on a weekly basis to keep from the enemy team quitting when I showed up. My score was routinely higher than the whole opposing team combined. It's not that I'm a savant at shooters but that game, especially the modded servers had all kinds of fun shit I could play with that others didn't seem to get.

I had one of the bigger tribes begging me to join and refused because one of their members team killed me once to get to an inventory station first. The leader kicked him hoping I'd join but I still refused and he (Foxpax MADDOG) turned into a team killing troll who always got kicked instantly and soon quit. I continued on my merry way.

There are other stories oldfags here might recognize but I'm too lazy to retype and most pass them off anyways. So here's some Shermie to keep you company.

>what you'd expect them to do
Release all this stuff online, maybe do a live stream showing it off. See the Hidden Palace release for Sonic 3's recent beta.
>what they actually did
What they did was create fake front sprites based on their imagination and then put them into a rom hack. They then live streamed someone playing this romhack and apparently from what I've been told, the implication was that the rom was the proto and they weren't at all clear about what was real and what wasn't.
This obviously backfired with the public because that's fucking retarded. Eventually they did just release the real beta stuff on their website through blog posts without tampering with them.

There is nothing wrong with TCRF. As with everywhere there will always be people dumb people and drama, but it's like saying wikipedia is shit because you heard one guy made some drama.
Overall it's still the better site because, unlike on fan sites controlled by a small group of people, content is less opiniated/based on assumptions and can actually be corrected.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. The main issue i've witnessed with the site is people making contributions of "things they heard" "things they've seen", as in, not things of their own research or things they checked up on themselves to make sure it's correct. This can lead to hearsays of hearsays, or misconceptions and assumptions passed as fact; plus when you contribute something not of your own you're supposed to provide source but these people don't always do that.

However like I said at least one day someone who actually cares and does his own research will check and correct. The same thing is less likely to happen on fansites.
