Is it possible to enjoy the Sonic series if you didn't grow up on the arcadey mindset that was so prevalent at the time?
As someone who was born in the mid 90s and grew up on the PS1, I could never get into the type of shorter, simpler games that are designed for multiple playthroughs. Is Sonic in general just not for me?

you're just retarded, anon. the fun of sonic is that it's, well, fun. that you can go fast, find countless routes through a level, try to beat your best time, and so on. if you cant enjoy sonic 2, i think you seriously need to get your zoomer head out of your zoomer ass and stop asking questions to make you sound smart.

Why so salty anon? All I'm asking is if the series has any appeal to a PS1 gaymer like me.

I was born in the early 80s and Sonic isn’t for me. I was never big on the level design.

I was basically born as a Sonicfag, Sonic 2 was the first game I ever played and I naturally fell into being an enthusiast for the series. I became a Jaded Sonic Fan in 2007 after renting Sonic and the Secret Rings and have continued a grudging acceptance that I'll always keep coming back to Sonic even though I think the franchise is kind of retarded trash.
Anyway, I don't actually enjoy playing many of the Sonic games, no matter how many times I am compelled to revisit them. Sonic Adventure 2 can be kind of fun in an autistic speedrun kind of way, plus the Chao Garden in that game is a deeply engrossing side mode that I've clocked hundreds of hours in over the years. Sonic Generations is ok. I guess I can probably find moments of fun in most of the Sonic games that are considered good, for example I like being Super Sonic in Sonic 2. That's pretty neat. I don't really know why these games just don't click for me like they do for other people. I played a solid dozen hours of Sonic Mania and still walked out respecting it for being a classic Sonic game true to form than I did actually having had fun and wanting to revisit what I experienced. Maybe I'm just an autistic retard.

Who knows? Why not give it a try?

PS1 had a fuckton of those games. Until the end of the Dreamcast, those consoles were getting a lot of arcade ports. The date you were born in and the console you grew up with are not the reason you are not into those kind of games, it's something else.

I'm well aware, but those games never appealed to me. I don't see the point of playing the same 30-minute long game over and over when I could go on a sprawling adventure.

I think games in general aren't for you.
