What do you do when your GBA battery starts to die? do they even sell official replacements anymore?

you buy a new one. Even if you can'd find specific GBA batteries all you need to do is fine a generic phone battery and hardwire it in.

The DS battery is actually the exact same battery as the GBA. So just buy a cheap DS battery. It'll have more battery life too.

You mean, the GBA SP? That's great if true. Any particular model of DS or what?

Original DS, cut the plastic tab on the battery so it'll fit.

What you should have done in the first place:
- Get an OG GBA.
- Buy some Eneloop rechargeable AA batteries.
- Gut your SP and put it's screen in the OG GBA.

You do what I did. This way you are guaranteed more capacity for cheaper. It's especially good if you use a flashcart, since it uses more battery.

This is how I play.
I just swap the save-files between the MiSTer and Everdrive depending if I'm doing couch-play on my 65" OLED or taking it on the go with my AGS-101 modded OG GBA.
It's more authentic hardware wise (on account of what an FPGA does) than my Gameboy Player and has none of the lag and hassle of even the Game Boy Interface driver.

Works like a dream.

Not him, but what exactly is partial about it?

>> No.7753787

>>7753757
The software driver on the disc you need to use for it to work at all that is also the cause of input lag, horrid murky scaling and frame-pace issues.
There is improved fan made software you can get now but it only fixes things up to a point and it's still partial software emulation, it has noticeably more lag than the MiSTer GBA core when I compare them on my CRTs.

It's a well know and documented issue with the Gameboy Player and just the reality of how it's designed to work, the reason why the MiSTer core is more responsive and accurate is that it basically becomes a GBA on a hardware level with an added VGA/HDMI out port.

Only hasel with the MiSTer is that there is no cartridge port to play your original carts, and you'll have to use an Everdrive if you want to transfer save-files to your GBA.

>> No.7753791

>not him
>literally him
What do you think the software on the disc does anon, and why do you think it has such an effect how the games run? Please explain.

>> No.7753861

>>7753801
The software on the disc don't do anything but write controller status and capture the video & audio output to/from the GBA SoC. Running the game is entirely handled in hardware, and the boot disc interacts with it only by providing inputs and capturing the outputs. Then it applies some bad filters and spits it out at the wrong framerate.
The framepacing issues exist because the GBA refresh rate is 59.737Hz while the NTSC standard defines 59.94Hz. That's what the official disc and the standard version of Game Boy Interface output. Some of the alternate versions of Game Boy Interface address this and output accurately timed video instead.
The boot disc may be poor at doing this job. But that doesn't make it emulation any more than plugging a shitty upscaler into a console means that you're emulating it. Fundamentally it's not doing anything different.

Here's a tip as someone who has done research into rechargeable batteries
Never charge to 100%, and never let them get right to full discharge. You can extend these things lives by a very long time if you do that.

>> No.7758987

>>7758687
Rechargeable battery packs typically have charge protection circuitry in them meant to prevent them from charging to 100% capacity (or continuing to try and charge them when it reaches 100% capacity) or fully discharging to 0%. This might be built into the battery pack if it's removable or incorporated into the power supply of the device if the battery is hardwired.

I wouldn't know because I didn't check but I have to imagine the GBA SP include that.
