Doesn't really matter the brand as long as it has a dedicated temperature circuit. Any of the super cheap ones that just plug into a wall don't heat consistently enough.

Pinecil is $25 and is more than enough for baby work like carts.

>> No.7728361

That's a fake cartridge yeah? How does time work on fake carts?

>> No.7728508

>>7728185
Yes? You can fit a small battery holder in GBA cartridges to future proof it.

>> No.7728514

>>7728310
Even those are fine for battery swaps, but in general it's better to have a better one.

>> No.7728517

>>7728508
For GBA cartridges? I know people talk about doing that on GB/GBC games since there's a lot of room in those carts, but GBA carts are cramped, for pokemon games in particular the battery is soldered over a chip and the front of the cart even has a cut out underneath it to make room for the battery.

The inkjet label is a giveaway, and generally it doesn't.

>> No.7728529

>>7728517
Yep. The batteries for the GBA games are smaller and the cartridge doesn't bulge inward like GB games do. I don't think you can even fit a battery holder in the GB games.

You set up a clock in the beginning of the game? That's how it opens. Berries use said clock for growth as does the shifting of the Mirage Island. Think before you post.

I did this without ever picking up a soldering iron before after watching a youtube video. I replaced 3 GBA batteries and 2 gameboy ones. The hardest part was finding a youtube video not made by a retard full of misinformation. I borrowed someone's soldering iron so now I'm in the market for one.

I'm not very smart either. Watch out for the fumes.

I'm someone who really likes to put their nose right up to the paper while writing or drawing, it's so hard to not do the same while soldering. I don't even know why I do that it's not like I have poor eyesight.

>> No.7728861

I forgot to put a mask on so it went all up my nose. I'll wear one next time. I could feel my brain cells shrinking and my lifebar getting shorter.

>> No.7728929

>>7728861
It's not really necessary to wear a respirator, all you need is decent ventilation like just open a window. Have a fan blowing air away from your desk if you're really paranoid. There's no lead in the smoke from soldering it's just the flux burning away, which isn't really a great thing to inhale either (nowhere near as bad as lead though) but you won't be inhaling anywhere near enough for it to be harmful if you just have a bit of ventilation.

>> No.7729049

>>7728929
I mean like a simple face mask or anything to cover your mouth and nose. Seems much easier than a fan. Even if it's not harmful it smells bad and it's really annoying.

Up until it glitches out. They had to offer ways to patch it by linking to later Gen3 games.

Yeah luckily the berry glitch fix is like the easiest thing to apply. Except for the DS games, literally every single game you can connect Ruby and Sapphire to can apply the patch, even an E-Reader will apply the patch.

They don't come grounded and have a minor issue with a heatsink location.
It's two easy fixes if you have access to someone else's soldering iron though and they're otherwise good value pricewise which is why people bother fixing them.
The only real straight-up chinesium part is the capacitor, a potentially cheap one.

Most of the people getting soldering irons are electronics hobbyists either way so lifting a heatsink, grounding a case and checking the connections on the iron isn't a huge amount of work to save a hundred bucks.
Sure, if you're going to be working with electronics as a daily job or don't mind paying more for peace of mind then shell out for a Hakko/Weller/JCB/Metcal.
