What is a weapons mod featuring modern/sci-fi Doom themed weapons that work natively with Heretic without needing patches?
I already played through Heretic with Guncaster about 5 times I would like something new.

I'm aware of this issue, and I have no sympathy for these types, If you choose hard on any map that has skill levels included and it's too hard, you have only yourself to blame. If you choose easy and it's still too hard, there's still cheats, but maybe you should just play a different wad to get better at Doom.

Skill levels don't need to be extensively tested, just do two quick untagging passes on monsters you don't consider essential to the encounter, account for ammo scarcity if those enemies are zombies, and maybe upgrade some health pickups to a higher tier on easy/medium. So I tried Daggers & Axes. Even though this build is very short (enemies don't spawn after ~90-100 seconds in) and project is cancelled, its still pretty impressive and anons should definitely take a look at it. Again, I really like menues: they're just comfy.
Strongly encourage the author to keep doing his thing with Quake modding as I'm certain he can create something amazing.

I think the reason texture replacement mods aren't really common is because of potential cases where the replacement textures look out of place in areas where the original makes sense if they're not similar enough. And this can especially happen in a game where textures can often also be used for absract reasons and not just for fitting a particular setting.

While I really liked Black Mesa,it made Freeman feel like a killing machine while the HECU turned into cannon fodder. I didn't like that much.

It doesn't have any specific name, no, and doesn't actually have any mechanical function, rather it's just a hollow metal cage (so to say) to cover the barrel and gas tube so that you don't touch them when they're hot (hence being referred to as a heat shield), also for giving a solid place to attach the ladder sight for the grenade launcher.
The underside of it is open, as the grenade launcher fits underneath it, and it's there because you can't mount the handguards on an M16A1 with the launcher.

It does look extremely aesthetically pleasing. As actual live 40mm M203 grenade launchers aren't widely available without some special paperwork (and getting 40mm loads which actually have explosive payloads is even harder than that), something that has been common has been mockups of various kinds, usually as 37mm flareguns, which you then fit with the classic heatshield, or a replica.
A year or so back, LMT, who has been making the M203 for a while, put out a limited edition run of M203s built as 37mm flareguns, just for the kind of people who want just that.

The M203 launcher seen in Scarface was a 39mm inert prop which was created on set as the movie production couldn't source a real one at the time. Random musings about the /vr/ shooters I played today.

Finished two levels of Thy Flesh Consumed and I gotta say this wad is downright horrible experience so far but it's not badly made. A lot of care and effort has been used to simulate the experience of a sledgehammer being brought down upon one's testicles.
I was intending on playing without savescumming but there's no way I am actually going to be able to achieve that desu.
Tldr : it's hard but it feels the mapper has some idea what he's doing.

I also booted up Dick Kickem 3d using Eduke, actually good game so far. In my memories I had mixed up my mental map of Hollywood Holocaust and Red Light District but the gameplay's really enjoyable and the strippers shaking their tits got thst dirty old smirk on my face like back in the day. Played until map 4 and called it for the day.

Blow it out your ass! Enjoyed it and the old school big macho dude with guns blasting aliens' brains out kind of shameless attitude.

anyone here played sunlust? just wanted to say i think its a bit overrated. its like a pair of 18 year olds took to doom builder and just got all of their teen angst out in level form.

i dont get the appeal of slaughter maps just to say - so then sunlust is probably not my kind of thing anyway. i appreciate the blending of slaughter with traditional styled levels, but fuck me, after 29 levels (you know, especially after map 29 called "Go Fuck Yourself". so creative) the "guess which combination of 500 enemies are behind this switch" gets a bit grating.

what i dont appreciate especially is having to grind the same level 50 times to understand the stupid technique. sometimes i dont even get a chance to react. its like the wad was designed to just piss people off. im not sure i agree with that philosophy. i think its important to remember that the respect you put into the level design translates to the player somewhat. for that reason i just cant respect the wad at all and give it a 2.5/3 out of 5 or something. but that gameplay loop is terrifyingly unenjoyable.

the only reason i powered through on UV was because the atmosphere and architecture is pretty good (apart from getting stuck on all the details when you're trying to circle strafe 600 revenants in a single room). there are some exceptions to the bullshit that i run into on most levels, and some of the maps are actually quite enjoyable, and FAIR. there is a lot that is downright unfair with sunlust.

just getting this out there. not sure how it gets so much praise. its so flawed, but so pretty. so i guess thats that.

The respawning I think is one of the key aspects of Nightmare! in my opinion, because it's what makes it such a relentless onslaught of Go Fuck Yourself, it's not JUST that the monsters are faster and quick on the draw, they'll never stay down either, so you can never truly clear out any spot in a level to get any kind of safe foothold, sooner or later they come back.

It REALLY makes a Nightmare! run something that you need to plan for, and react to in time, because if you miss your (vague) window before they get back up again, you're probably just fucked. Looking at the Plutonia Nightmare! speedruns, those dudes have to have precision timing while fighting fast demons like mad cunts, it's extremely impressive to see.
That Nightmare! wasn't even intended to be playable for real, yet actually turned out to be a method to display elite skill, I think that's part of the fun.

i like wads well constructed with good balance, lots of care, attention, and respect. i just think sunlust lacks the last bit. i dont get this with sunlust, respect i mean. its again, like im being given the middle finger by some 18 year olds, and its incredibly unforgiving, just designed to annoy people. like i wander into a room sometimes and i either have to cross my fingers and hope RNG actually works in my favour. then when it doesnt i hold me hands up and go, well ok. attempt 49. it makes me question what even makes it fun on UV.

and the reason i dont go down to HMP is because there are plenty of occasions where UV is really engaging and actually pretty exhilirating. but then i move onto the next level and its just a different kettle of fish entirely. completely off whack. but then its obviously not built for people like me. i wish i could enjoy it.

I started playing Doom at 97 too. Experienced Memento Moris when they still felt like official expansions. Played Doom on real dos, and then with dos boom. Was there to get amazed by first experimental zdoom wads. Then at 2007 I just quit Doom (and almost all other game too). And came back at 2015, when I had wife and kid. Never would have thought that I still would be staying at Doom community. Quality of 2010s wads were incredible. Btsx, mayan mishap, speed of doom, vanguard, lunatic etc. I got addicted to Doom again.

So I eventually got into Ribbiks' wads. After completing Skillsaw wads, they didn't feel too hard, but fun. For me Sunlust was a masterpiece. Never been anime fan either btw.

There seems to be lot of anger and negativity in you. But sunlust is not any anti-boomer stuff. Ribbiks is already part of older generation, and so seems to be the aaa-level challenging and aesthetically pleasing prboom wads. Old stuff for us oldies. Kids these days map for gzdoom. That isn't my thing, so i just ignore it, but i don't get mad. I just don't like those dynamic light spammed aesthetics and neither does my computer. Howerer there is plenty new wads that i like. So zero reasons to get bitter.

Nope, still the same weapon. Just changes the model (idk how to just swap skins) and checks for the mode it's in when you swing it. I'm actually making a secondary fire button for throwing it, which will probably be a zoom button for most other weapons. The on/off is on the firing mode button I've made (default Q).

Figured it would be nice to have an option to bonk lone enemies without risking wasting cells. The uncharged Mjolnir also does double damage over vanilla now to match the double axe damage people voted for. Also got an idea for a ground slam that might go well with the grapple, but that can wait...

skill is your difficulty setting, if you don't want it on UV then change it, 0 is ITYTD and 4 is NM
if multiplayer enemy spawns are busting your balls, add +sv_nothingspawn 1 to disable them
hd_pof is power of friendship mode, which disallows respawning and instead requires all living allies to be in close proximity of a player's corpse to revive them
take that out if you want regular respawning gameplay, add a +fraglimit argument if you want limited lives
then make sure everyone playing has the same versions of all mods loaded as you, and make sure they follow your exact load order or you'll desync
it's fine to use cosmetic mods like reskins or sound packs, but anything that adds actual new stuff needs to be synced

joining players only need this, in addition to a synced load order:

you can save the game while playing and should do so at the end of each map, in case of level transition desyncs or party wipes
use the save command in the console instead of the menu so you can choose a unique filename that won't overwrite anyone else's saves

The liberator? 7mil is more common than you might think, just check ammo boxes. If you're completely tapped on ammo and can't find any, you CAN recycle spent brass casings and stray 4mil ammunition and process new rounds using the feeding mechanism on the rifle itself, you'll have to hold use and check the controls for the input. Just remember this is time consuming and you need a lot of 4mil for a single 7mil round.

I used to hoard brass like crazy because I didn't want to run out, though after awhile I stopped worrying so much about it and just ran with what the maps gave me, and I found myself drowning in 7mil.

No problem, also keep in mind 9mil is more useful than what it may seem. It does low damage compared to 4mil and 7mil, and it struggles against armor. But it's light, causes bleeding like a motherfucker, and absolutely TRASHES shields. A pistol with a full mag and a fast trigger finger can turn the tide against a hell knight, and SMGs eat hell knights for breakfast.

The older rifle is the Liberator, it uses 7.76mm, which is conventional cased cartridge. You can find it around like any other item in ammo boxes, in backpacks, on stripper clips, in magazines, in loaded rifles, etc, and you can also pick up the ejected casings and save them, to then reload them and use them again.

The bullpup version of the Liberator rifle has a built in automated reloading tool you can use (a separate one can also be found, or put into a spawn loadout), which somehow can turn 4.26mm caseless cartridges into new powder, primer, and projectiles for use to load your empty 7.76mm casings into new cartridges. The more you know about how ammunition works, the less sense this makes, but just roll with it, don't look a gift gun in the muzzle.

Due to the Liberator being like a conventional rifle like one from today, it always extracts and ejects as part of its cycle, thus if a cartridge would be a dud, or gets picked up from the magazine in a weird way and thus doesn't go into the chamber, it's not that difficult to manipulate the action manually to address the situation.
The ZM66 assault rifle is a plastic piece of shit, and does not have this feature, when a cartridge is a dud, all you can do is to just beat and bang on the thing, hoping that the offending cartridge comes loose. This is because whoever designed the rifle is a mong who provided no functionality for handling any of these problems just because they aren't required for normal cycling.

Thy Flesh Consumed's map 3.
Best of the episode's maps so far. A lot of open areas in multiple levels and a lot of carnage due to clumps of monsters that lend themselves naturally to infighting like shotgunners and imps. Felt like good bit of carnage and lots of infighting.

Played Duke Nukem's Toxic Dump and Launch Platform levels. Both were okay levels though lacked in the personality of either the first two city maps or Death Row. Still decent ass kicking fun, been loving the pipe bombs because groups of shotty pigs can be a bitch and blowing them into gibs is satisfying.

I wanted to do a full new playthrough of Back to Saturn X and a few others. Wanted to include coop monsters / a weapon mod to spice up things.

Revisiting it with HD again, it's certainly a lot better than it tends to get credit for. I think it was just a victim of bad timing more than anything else. All the other Cacoward winners of the year had a lot more going on in the presentation department - even the original DTWID could at least boast a custom titlepic and intermission screens while D2TWID is all stock assets outside of two secret maps. And it should go without saying that between pretty visuals and tightly designed gameplay, the average person is much more able to appreciate the former, and will be much more vocal about it as well.

Anyone play Bright Island from Serious Sam Revolution? How the FUCK are you supposed to beat the last fight in Forlorn Ruins on Serious difficulty? I get swamped and die just from the Kleers before anything else even shows up. I had to cheese it by hiding behind a wall, and even that took a bunch of tries because the enemies sometimes get back there or hit you while you're poking out if you're not careful, and you're on a narrow, slippery platform with a bottomless pit behind you.

Search for nolf revival, and then nolf modernized patch. It's a lot easier than it was some years ago. I even played a little deathmatch on a german server. Bad lag, but a lot of fun.

so last night I couldnt sleep and fiddled with Supercharge and managed to strip out the custom monsters from it and make an actual updated Supercharge 2.8 with nomonsters
and it works with monster mods tried it with 3 different ones
I also did some modifications to the pistol and the assault rifle
AR now holds 40 bullets in the magazine and pistol holds 15
and the shotgun holds 10 shells
I also made the AR 100% accurate because fuck spread

It is. After all it's made by legendary tier mappers, who know what they are doing. They took all good parts of Doom 2 and left all bad parts out. Strangely even thought the wad is better than Doom 2 it managed to bring all good memories of ot back and thus finally appreciate the original. That takes some serious skill in mapping.

Sitefag here. Because "maps that work well with HD" is highly subjective. I think Sunlust works well with HD if you jam enough addons in it. Personally got to MAP24 before the lag punched me in the face. And almost nobody plays vanilla HD (to my knowledge), so it'd be pointless to make a page dedicated to maps that work well with just HD. However, this reminds me that I accidentally nuked Diabolus Ex from the page. That was a mistake.
