I no longer have the youth or autism to finish hard games pre N64 or PS1.

Actually most of the really popular series are pretty easy. They got extremely popular because they are so accessible. Mario, Sonic, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc.

>> No.7724705

>>7724703
Sonic isn't that easy

>> No.7724709

what are the difficult sonic games you are referring to? i'd like specific examples.

>> No.7724713

>>7724703
Almost every single one of these series is only considered easy after the NES entries. Dragon Quest and FF in particular became way less grindy post SFC days, the NES zeldas are considered the most cryptic, Mario is only easy if you cheat with warps, and Sonic is only easy if you don't 100% it.

Theyre easy to me. But i need obscure.

I have no problem with hard games from mid 90s to up.

The whole "You will never die as long as you have a ring" system they have closes the gap between good and bad players pretty well as far as just completing the game is concerned. The only hazard you really need to look out for at that point is bottomless pits which can be handled by simply taking the game slowly. The controls are also very simple as well.

>Mario is only easy if you cheat with warps
Super Mario Bros. was so easy they created a hard mode rom hack to serve as the sequel. Literally the only difficult part of the game is World 8.

>Literally the only difficult part of the game is World 8.
Most people never even got there without warps. People even admit it here in the /vr/ confessions threads. It's a straight forward platformer, sure, but that's a lot of levels to complete without warps and therefore a lot of chances to die.

Also, lost levels wasn't even brought over here because Americans thought SMB was too hard.

Of course, it's not that hard of a game. But it's not a go-to easy series you could have listed like Kirby.

>> No.7724735

Also games mostly easy but some hard levels are ok.

And ones with cheats.

Yes, casual zoomers.

This is the first time I've EVER heard someone say this rather than "SMB2 was too hard to be released in America" so I think you just pulled that out of your ass.

That's just the logical corollary of that statement. It's not just that lost levels was too hard, it's that Nintendo had already noted the differences between the difficulty in games released in America and Japan. This wasn't a one off game they decided not to release because of its difficulty, the decision not to release difficult famicom games was a company policy in America, and they obviously had to come to that conclusion from somewhere based on market research from American gamers at the time.

How do you explain American NES releases being made more challenging than their Famicom versions then? Games like Castlevania 3 and Ninja Gaiden 3 for example?

Super Castle Vania 4.

Because those weren't nintendo intellectual properties and therefore internal nintendo policies regarding localization probably wouldn't have mattered as much?

Lot of Euro games easier, less frames or something.

Pc mods.

Japan actually some has easier games versions.

I think people here overestimate the skill and dedication of the average player back then, most games were just kind of a colorful distraction rather than a challenge people took seriously, not that far off from repeating the first stage of an arcade game a couple times and then going back to bowling or eating pizza.

THE GODDAMN PLATFORMS KILLING YOU WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO JUMP ON THEM REGARDLESS OF RING COUNT. Getting pinched between two platforms is the only shitty thing about those games, VERY annoying. Also, not being widescreen. Sonic Mania fixed this thankfully.

That's fine though. Playing those games on widescreen feels much better. Going fast is more tolerable and fun, I don't feel like I need to play the levels 20+ times to get good at going quick.

That's fucking bullshit man. First 2 FFs(probably 3rd too but have no experience with it) are fucking brutal. I hope you're not basing this on remakes. Making it through a dungeon with 5 floors and only a few potions and 5 overall spells you can use for the entire duration for healing or reviving/hp with CONSTANT random encounters not to mention the constant status effects regular ass enemies inflict. Either you didn't play it or you're a tryhard.
