He's Sid Meier, the guy who made CPU Bach for the 3DO and the original PC version of Magic: The Gathering, which was hilariously broken and let you tap your opponent's mana during their upkeep and mana burn them and lock them down to 1 mana or less.

He didn't design any Civ games beyond 1, so Civ 1. I unironically like it very much for a very cozy art style and lots of surprisingly cool features like causing civil wars in AI civs or attracting foreign cities to your civilization. I really didn't expect such an ancient game to be so engrossing.

Chronologically, I played 3, 4, 1, 2, AC. I haven't really played a complete party in 2, though, since it every time I try I remember how awful is the landmass generating script and quit. Great wonder videos, though.
