Hello i had a question,
i wanted to have a retro console, so i thought maybe there was a way to hack a wii and dowload unlimited stuff from the retro game shoop (snes games mostly), is there a way to do that? will it be better than a regular windows emulator?

thanks

Yes, there is. It'd be pretty much the same, and the game selection is more limited, so not really.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, you want to know if there is a way you can hack your wii to gain infinite Wii points to purchase unlimited items on the Wii Shop, right?

If so, then no, its impossible. Mostly for obvious reasons like Nintendo having put protections in place on THEIR end.

A little more expensive way to do that is to actually buy a SNES and a flash cart so that you can get all SNES game on one cartridge and play on a real SNES.

A filter is something emulation programs use to slightly improve the graphics. They are pretty good for the most part, but they can make some games look bad. Anyway, don't worry about them, the default options in most emulators are ok.

I never called him dumb. I merely felt that his question was dumb. Did you perchance read his question? He wanted to know if you can hack your Wii to have infinite Wii Points to get games off of Nintendo's Wii Shop, when hacking your Wii and installing emulators is much much easier and is actually possible. Most people know this by default without even really thinking much on it because its just plain common sense. Do you really think Nintendo wouldn't put protections on their servers like Microsoft and Sony do? Really?

>Human beings have the capacity to transfer their knowledge to other beings. And that ability is one of the basis of our society, so stop being an asshole.

I'm aware, but lets be honest here. You're being, for lack of a better word, a faggot. I called his question dumb, but still helped him because I do care. I just want to instigate some common sense. You can't do so by being overly sensitive, which is exactly what you're doing. So agian, get over it.

Posts like mine set standards, and they won't stop. And for the record, even if you disagree with me about this particular anon's question, an easy example of a dumb question is one that is completely off-topic to the ongoing lesson and that happens frequently during lectures. Dumb questions do exist. Welcome to the real world, where winners and losers coexist and instructors have to put up with stupid questions.

Not really. A ton of people know very little about the internet and how does it work. The guy obviously knows you can hack some consoles and play downloadable games in them, but not how. Something that you can totally do, just downloading the games from the internet into a PC, not from Nintendo's servers. So it was a legit question: you can do it, but not like that.

>one that is completely off-topic to the ongoing lesson and that happens frequently during lectures
That'd be inappropriate, not dumb. In fact, it could even be a pretty smart question to ask if what the student wants is to waste time or to derail the lecture. Which, yeah, it's not a smart thing to do in the long run, but that's a whole different issue.

I don't want to hear any excuses about it being devoid of intelligence either, because GO BACK AND READ HIS QUESTION, he was literally asking if there was a way he could hack his wii and then STEAL the games from Nintendos VERY OWN servers. Again, are you kidding me? Dumb questions can still be "legit". That doesn't change the fact that by definition, it was devoid of much thought.

OP, I hope you're still here and haven't abandoned thread yet. I'll try to give you a good answer.

There are ways and means to install your own software on to the Wii, some of which include emulators that can be used to play whatever games you wish for the respective system. You can also install games from the retro shop in the form of .wad files (the file format used by the Wii for installing those games).

I won't link you to anything since I'm quite drunk and don't want to lead you astray, but here's the general step to take:

Install the 'homebrew channel', this is a simple program you can install to your Wii that will allow you to run many homebrew programs, including emulators and tools to install retro store games.

From here, you can either get some emulators or a .wad installer to get the games you like running.

You may also want to install some custom firmware (which will be very well detailed on homebrew wikis and forums) that will allow you to run downloaded Wii and Gamecube games.

In terms of accuracy and quality of emulation, the Wii is pretty good for SNES & Megadrive (and earlier systems). Anything newer than that and you're in to not great territory. PS1 and N64 is really PC-domain stuff. GBA emulation is even a bit slow!

I'm gonna stick around for a bit and keep drinking vodka, I'll try to answer any questions you have.

You've obviously never lurked any decent IRC channel or tech help website. This shit is common sense in any echelon of technical help. Just look at what happens with repeat questions on stackoverflow.
If you ask a stupidly easy question to find on any IRC channel, you'll be lucky if people don't tell you to figure it out yourself. If somebody does help you, they'll finish helping you by telling you that you could easily have found the answer yourself and to do some searches before bothering a large group of people.
I'm glad to help a guy out, but I'm not going to be nice to somebody who obviously expended no effort on independent research before expecting to be told the answer.

I never assumed that the guy has the same knowledge as me. I also don't think his "answer" is dumb, but I think his "question" is dumb. You may want to study up on your English.

Again, it isn't wrong to want to instigate a standard of common sense. He wanted to steal games DIRECTLY from Nintendo's servers.

They're pretty retarded for getting so upset, but you're backpedaling here, and it's really not working. You can't call somebody a woman as an insult and then somehow claim that it's not sexist or not a bad thing to be emotional. You're hurting your own credibility, and contradicting yourself.

Not him, but I do.
You have to get used to it here. American daytime 4chan assumes that everybody is American, and therefore is a retard if they don't speak English perfectly.
If you're not retarded, it's pretty easy to tell the difference between a lazy shit who doesn't care about learning the language (as many Brazilians are, as well as some Australians, and many Americans themselves) and somebody who is legitimately trying but slips up on a few constructs.

I know who you are.
I'm saying that alternately saying "gaping vaginas" and "confirmed for having ovaries", and then turning around and saying that women being more emotional is "not a bad thing" implies one of two things:
1: You honestly think that everybody who was offended is literally a woman
2: You are using it as an insult, confirming your inlying misogyny and belying your statement that it's "not a bad thing".

You are either retarded, or contradicting yourself.

>Thanks for telling me.

>No, he wanted to play retro games on his wii and he ASKED if such a thing was possible.

Just re-read his post: "Hello i had a question,
i wanted to have a retro console, so i thought maybe there was a way to hack a wii and dowload unlimited stuff from the retro game shoop (snes games mostly), is there a way to do that? will it be better than a regular windows emulator?

thanks"

From the "retro game shoop". Which I of course read to be "shop". Places like Coolrom aren't shops. But the Wii does have a Wii Shop that offers retro games, specifically, SNES games.

All in all, the question was worded very poorly.

>I do. Constantly. Expressing yourself correctly in another language is not an easy task. Tell me, do you know other languages other than English?

Good! Keep up the good work. I'm aware. But then again, I don't go on foreign image boards and attempt to participate in heavy discussions where mastery of the languages would help me communicate better. I keep things nice and simple.

If you're using it as an insult, why would you say "there's nothing wrong with it" and try so hard to defend your character.
Just embrace your misogyny, whatever, rant about your problems on >>>/r9k/. Just know that calling people "gaping vaginas" and defaulting to calling people women when you don't agree with them is very childish. Women are more emotional than men. This is true.
Predominately black inner-city slums have much higher incidences of crime. This is also true.
You'd do just as well trying to be taken seriously by calling everybody a bunch of "fucking niggers" every time crime is brought up.
As an educator, I'd expect you to be more privy to encouraging debates where you actually focus on the point at hand, rather than letting your personal bigotries define what you disagree with.

tl;dr: Being offended was stupid, but it had nothing to do with women being more emotional than men, and you just shat all over the discussion by even bringing it up in the first place.

If you want to get really technical about it, I'm sure you actually can hack Nintendo's server and download things from there. It just takes mad hacking skills, but it is possible. So his question wasn't dumb.

Popularity is a bitch. Not many people like retro games in my country. Or videogames in general. Or anime.
