Makan a map for doom2, if its good enough it might even make it to /v(r)/ megawad.
question is, what features would you like to see?
I am focusing on gameplay first and things that I can guarantee is:
>enough space to go fast
>enough space to circlestrafe most enemies
>hard as fuck
>pretty much every weapon available on the map, but strong shit is hidden
>teleports all over the place
>map is hueg
>exploration = more shit to kill + more stuff for you

any requests?

order in which player can get weapons, including hidden ones.
order is also including difficulty in obtaining weapons:

>shotgun
right where you start
>chaingun
from chaingunners once player meets them
>double barrel shotty
hidden, place is not obvious unless you look at the map.
>rocket launcher
big challenge area, hard to get because its surrounded by enemies
>plasma gun
secret again, requires you to have blue keycard and pressing two buttons that are-not-so obvious. then you have aprox 30 seconds to get it
>BFG
similar story as plasma, but the only way to get to it, is to go trough cage with two (one if you are a pussy that plays on easy difficulty) cyberdemons.

For your sake I hope you're the former and not the latter.

Though >>742276 might've been the inspiration for the pol map I see.

To shift the topic, in another thread someone told me you tracked me down, which is funny since I've following you as well. I know where Terminus goes to school and I've found polmapfag's facebook, he shouldn't have posted it on that horror website. Ring a bell? exactly. "except BFG". *not having a BFG* is the difference a pistol start makes. "pistol start doesn't make a difference" is in direct contradiction to "would have loved to have a BFG"

also, trying to collect up all the weapons on the start platform whilst not being knocked off the sides by revenant punches is difficult to say the least.

in conclusion, a pistol start makes a huge difference in the first 20 seconds of the map.

however, well done for maxing it at all, it's still an achievement.

GZDoom Version:
http://www.mediafire.com/?4kcjk1cc1qw0539

1.20

- Huge alterations to plasma pistol
- - Plasma pistol now has optional ammo that recharges (charge meter)
- - When fully charged, pistol fires a powerful 5 shot burst
- - Firing when undercharged will deplete the charge meter
- - You can still fire normally when the charge meter is at 0
- - Sound of pistol also changedto reflect its actual power. The plasma rifle sound was a bit too much.
- Beam zombie accuracy nerfed a bit
- - Note that this can sometimes make it HARDER to dodge, but overall it shouldn't be as bad.
- - Also they no longer chaingun their rifle at you, and will act more like zombiemen

Please no more complaints about the plasma pistol, this is literally as powerful as I'm going to make it.

Ive made maps. I have stuff in the 1024 and 32in24 series, which was where I got my start.

Im kind of the "trial by fire" type so when it comes to mapping or DB2 the best thing to do is get it, toy around with it, see what you can do in a time frame and throw it in with whatever projects are happening on Doomworld.

I never bothered with tutorials, but I kind of got DB2 the day it came out (which is what started me mapping on a regular basis), so they didnt exist when I started.

tl;dr find a project. join in. Improve your craft by actually doing it.

Doom vs Doom 2.

I vote for the original. Better level design, better atmosphere, and better soundtrack.

The additional monsters of Doom 2 was a nice; addition, to the original cast. Allowed for some more variation in monster placement and level design; however, Doom 2 also introduced the hugely overpowered SSG, so that doesn't help the DM balance (but who really cares about DM balance?) but it did encourage more of the fast-paced, run-n-gun playstyle that, I felt, was more prominent in Doom 2.

As far as level design goes, I'll go with Doom 2 because even the guys at id themselves said when they started doing map designs for Doom, they were still in "Wolfenstein" mode and making very 90 degree angled maps for Doom despite having more creative tools. That's why I put my vote down for Doom 2 as far as level design.

>Better soundtrack
This one is really subjective (not like these all aren't but whatever), but I do agree that some of the tracks in Doom 2 don't exactly feel "Doom-ish" and thus also detracts from the atmosphere.

I played the fuck outta Doom, way more than I ever played Doom 2, and I have to say I prefer Doom 2 a lot more.

Doom 2's main point is the new monsters that aren't just single-shot fireball shooters, plus adding the SSG.

I like The Ultimate Doom a little more. Best soundtrack easily, the episode structure is ideal for playing in small bursts, and I generally like the map design a bit more.

Doom 2's Super Shotgun and enemy additions are nice though, the final boss was better at least and some of the bigger maps were somewhat fun. But I am not a fan of the map design in general; I think I spent half an hour trying to find a key in one of the levels, only to find out it was hidden behind the yellow one, and I found more maps confusing to navigate, on par with E3M7.

Coding noob here, got a question about an idea that's been banging around in my head: Is it possible to transfer a user-defined variable to the value used by a RandomSpawner's dropitem property? The basic idea is, make an option menu that allows the user to define how often a randomspawner spawns a particular monster/weapon/whatever. So far, I'm assuming it would involve using menudef to create the option menu, then using ACS to take the Cvars from there and turn them into something that can be used by the decorate, but I don't know if there's a simple way to take those variables and transfer them directly into the decorate so that they can be used within there.

Fractal Doom has been updated!

All of the new updates were updates to weapons!

--The shotgun now has two modes of firing: Its primary fire is the same as the vanilla shotgun, except it has slightly less spread. Its alternate fire has the same spread as the vanilla shotgun and deals the same amount of damage, but utilizes 35 pellets instead of 7. Both modes use 1 shell.

--The super shotgun now has two modes of firing: Its primary fire has slightly less spread than the vanilla super shotgun and shoots 25 pellets instead of 20 for the same damage. Its alternate fire has the same spread as the vanilla super shotgun and deals the same amount of damage, but utilizes 100 pellets instead of 20. Both modes use 2 shells.

--The chaingun now has two modes of firing: Its primary fire has slightly less spread than the vanilla chaingun and does 6 damage per bullet instead of 5. Its alternate fire shoots twice as fast and does 6 damage per bullet instead of 5, but is almost as inaccurate as the vanilla super shotgun.

--The rocketlauncher now has two modes of firing: Its primary fire is the same as the vanilla rocketlauncher. Its alternate fire costs 10 rockets and shoots a rocket which deals double explosion damage and spawns smaller rockets in a spiral pattern continuously. The smaller rockets deal 1/2 the damage of a vanilla rocket and have half as large of an explosion radius. Pic related.

--The plasmarifle has not changed since the last update except that its alternate fire now works correctly and plasma spawned by the initial projectile correctly inherit pitch.

Require an update on your side of the torrent.

Also, may actually include VMWare and Windows 95 in the torrent. Maybe this can help play the less compatible games? The only issue in this is that a keygen may be required. Is there a officially free version of VMWare available for download? No keys required? It would just be a better solution.

If you get within humping distance when the BFG's spray goes off and hit it with every hitscan, you'll do so much damage you're guaranteed to kill it in one hit. Theoretically, you could do the same to a Cyberdemon, but there's apparently some error in the original Doom's hit detection (something about the blockmap? Someone else might have the link to an article that explains whadafug it is) that keeps that from actually working, though you can watch any speedrunner use the basic trick to consistently two-shot them anyway.

>> No.746615

>>746469
uh

where did you get those values

the BFG's impact damage alone is (1d8)*100 damage
each ray is 15d8 damage, and there's 40 rays

that makes the minimum damage 700, and the maximum 5600
average damage is 3150, which is enough to oneshot the spider mastermind

>> No.746617

I assume by "if you know what you're doing" they mean that you have to understand how the BFG works and that it's more effective the closer you are to your target. You'll never oneshot a spider mastermind with a BFG ball from the other side of the map. If you get right up in the beast's face, however, you've got a much better chance of success.

>> No.746624

>>746469

You are completely wrong.
The BFGBall's damage is 100, meaning it does between 100-800.
The BFGSpray's damage is 40 tracers doing 15d8 damage.

Confirmed for knowing shit all. Someone should turn off your computer because you clearly don't know anything.

>> No.746631

>>746469
If we're to speak of ZDoom, then the "absolute" minimum damage is 15 - and that's only if you roll 15 1d8 dices to 1 and hit with only one tracer.

Otherwise it's 115 for 100 (the ball does 100*1d8) and the aforementioned single tracer.

The maximum may very well be (15*8 * 40 Tracers) + 800 Ball, which is 5600.

The way I understand it is the Doom random number generator isn't really 'random' but just goes straight down a list of numbers. I dunno if sourceports fixed that but either way it's extremely unlikely to get a result that hugely swings towards max/min damage.

Basically it is very possible to point-blank a spider mastermind in one shot with the BFG. But you gotta be real close.

>> No.746683

There's a point at the end of the "notes" section that still goes on about the 49-87 damage thing, though that points to some pseudorandom number generator article that apparently affects how the BFG tracers work. It more than likely doesn't apply to Zdoom though.

There's a bunch of different Cyberrunner files floating around the best-ever list; biggest ones I see only get up to 5-6 megs in size. Dunno how indicative that is of how big the final release will be.

I'd say don't worry about filesize, honestly. Most modern mods eclipse several gigabytes in size; a dinky little Doom mod ain't gonna hurt anyone's connection.

Most modern mods aren't some sprites, a bunch of ~128x128 textures, some miscellaneous images and a bunch of code with a bit of music stuffed in there - though.

And generally it's a good thing to keep your filesizes proportionate to the mod size, because nobody likes downloading 90 MB of stuff only to find out that 85 MB of it was just stupid music.

Nobody is going to start a headhunt on you for doing whatever, but size does actually matter around here to some degree. :v

Regardless of the types of data used within the mods, it doesn't change the fact that Doom mods are comparatively much smaller than mods for other games, and that most users would hardly blink at filesize for Doom mods when your average TV or anime episode's filesize vastly eclipses that of a Doom mod.

As for needlessly padding the filesize with unnecessary additional stuff, that's just a bad showing on part of the developer(s) regardless of whether it's an extra 85 MB of music in a Doom mod 850 MB in a mod for any other game.

That's why I said they're pretty small already, not just as small.

You could compress them down into a more compressed mp3 with very little noticeable loss of quality, but you couldn't just as easily convert them to .xm at a smaller size without it sounding weird.

And, like I said, there is a far greater selection of music available in mp3 versus .xm or other tracker.

Hey. Thanks for your concern.
MP3s certainly have a way huge selection, and there's lots of MP3 songs I wish we could use, but the filesize of tracker music is pretty much the biggest reason for why we picked it. Not that many people are on 56k, but if there's things I can trim off to keep it from becoming bloated, hey, all the better!
We have a steadily-growing selection of tracker music as we discover even more sites and filetypes, so we've got a huge amount of options as it is now.

I could say it also forces us out of our familiar stuff and has us explore around a bit more for songs we wouldn't normally consider, but that sounds vaguely hipster-ish.
So here's a pair of glasses.

>> No.747382

>>747330
Well, we aren't going to have 5000 maps. We don't need the hugest selection, especially since Cyberrunner is a near-perfect fit towards the biggest genre with tracker music, electronic music.

I also like the fact that module files are pretty easy to edit, so we can make pretty drastic changes to the music and not have it sound weird. Not that we'll ever actually use that, buuuuuut

MonsterMash has been updated to enhance your mashing experience!

-Fixed the Plasma Gun's ammo counter to account for the player having a backpack or not
-Fixed Hades Spheres counting toward kill percentage (they weren't supposed to by virtue of being spawned by Hades Elementals)
-Fixed Revenant fireball trails causing ricochets and noises
-Fixed player and Paladin grenades not showing up in Zandronum
-Changed the Serpent Demon's fireball
-Reduced Vulgar's healing ratecoloring to a more appropriate firey red
-Added a switch to deactivate landmines: While the landmines are selected, use alt-fire to change to a switch, then fire while pointing at a mine to deactivate it, which you can then pick up.

I hate to ask you fellas, but I have been trying to set up VirtualBox with Windows 95 for the torrent, and constantly get the error in
>pic related

I have retried installing it 4 times, every time there is a similar error. I tried putting the floppy in and clicking "OK" but it doesn't recognize it. I have even tried redownloading the floppy disk "12" from another torrent, but nothing works. I pressed cancel another time, but errors constantly show up during reboot. Sure it boots up, but I am unsure if it would be necessary to play the games included (the whole fucking point), and would rather just have it fixed if possible. What I really want to know, is if it is a hardware issue meaning could others use the files when I couldn't? I couldn't find information about it on google, so it is probably system dependent, so I may still include it. Thought I should run it by you all before I ran down that road however.

FRACTAL DOOM has been updated!

-The altfire for the Rocket, in addition to the spiral spawning of mini-rockets added last update, will now rip through all monsters except boss monsters. The cost of the altfire has also been increased from 10 to 15.

-The BFG now has an altfire; for 300 cell, you can become invulnerable for 8 seconds! (If you're scratching your head at this, it's far more useful than it seems at first glance, escpecially in FRACTAL DOOM.)

-Mini-imps thrown by imps and mini-mini-imps thrown by mini-imps can now be killed mid-flight!

Okay, I give up on this bullshit! Got it booting without an error (apparently it was a different error this time than before) without any errors upon boot, but then find out that to share files from host to machine, your machine is required to install shit from the Devices dropdown menu, which is unsupported for anything earlier than windows 2K or something similar. Also am not sure if this is because the files on the floppies weren't found (there were more than one, likely the whole of floppy 12), but cannot get internet working! Not to even fucking mention that it DIDN'T EVEN INSTALL AN INTERNET BROWSER!! (NOT EVEN FUCKING INTERNET EXPLORER AM I MISSING SOMETHING?) I am stressing far too much over this, when it is clearly over my head. I have decided not to include the virtual machine nor windows 95, and am not attempting to fix it again, unless it is 100 percent guaranteed to work and run Assassin 2015 AT LEAST(sry yall, I will still include Assassin 2015 however, just with no paved way to run it).

I will continue actually making progress on the torrent tomorrow. Remember, only 21 more titles (not including addons) left unless more are added (probably not, I will perhaps create separate torrents in the form of 'updates' for other games I encounter over time(after so many titles)) so yeah, something to look forward to assuming anyone is still following this. Shouldn't take too long, MAY even finish in a week or 2 with good luck(I have to retest them all, make sure they work and that the help files included are even relevant, make damned sure I got everything, and attempt to ensure that for the most part they are full and updated versions), but don't hold that knife against me if I don't make it in the allotted time. Even though I don't personally care about the story in DOOM (thought the setting is cool), the DOOM64 story is retarded.
Mother Demon resurrects all the dead demons (that's why they look weird/different), it being undetected because it was hidden in radiation, staying in HELL to keep the demons at bay. The last part, badass, but it sucks. Because it makes DOOMguy out like he's a pussy in the intro story.

I think the animation could use a little bit of exaggeration. In frame 1 and 4, the back leg could stand to be going back a little more, maybe standing on tip-toe instead of the back of her foot to really give the feeling of speed. As it is now, especially in frame 4, it actually seems to be bending forward a bit. Still, awesome work so far.

Out of curiosity, how did you start work with this? Did you guys figure out a design together on a collab tool or something, or did he send you concept art and say "do this", or did he send you options and you got to pick and choose and modify them, or what?

As others have mentioned, there's already been a lot of school shooter WADs. Now, if you want to make it original and actually interesting and entertaining to play (beyond the lel so edgy aspect), here's my idea. Use Hideous Destructor as the base. This way, you won't be able to run around at a billion miles an hour, and it's more viable to have only a few armed opponents that individually pose a significant threat to your spree. Redefine all the player classes obviously, to restrict the player to weapons that would be realistic for a school shooter to have - pistols, shotguns, ARs. No rocket launchers, no plasma rifles. Possibly grenades.

Then, for the setting, have it begin as a normal school day, with the player having their fist selected by default. The player can choose when to begin his spree - you could start during lunch break to score a lot of easy kills, for instance, or in between classes to cause chaos in the hallways and make it more difficult for the school's police officers to take you down.

The longer the player manages to survive, the more numerous and more powerful the enemy reinforcements will become. There could also be some student resistance - for instance, maybe a chemistry club that makes use of improvised bombs, student athletes that try to melee you, stuff like that. Maybe have some armed teachers, as well.

A score would be kept throughout, and there could even be a high score list at the end of the round, thanks to some new features in ZDoom.

All in all, it's an idea that's actually got some real potential to be fun, but there's never really been the means to execute it until now.

Yeah. Use the orb strife robot. This'll be a neat wad actually. Might want to change the criteria for 100%ing the level to take into consideration what the robot can carry as well. Just a thought.

What's this? Doomkartguy actually being contributive? I like it.

Few things to consider:
1: The AI pathfinding is very shoddy, so you may want to make the buddy bot either noclip or have a very, very small hitbox.
2: Will enemy monsters be able to target it? And if so, will it have a set amount of HP, or will it just soak the damage and be invulnerable?
3: Will you be able to direct it to pick up items in the distance, or will it just hang with you and follow you?

Looking forward to this, this is gonna be really neat.

the strife sentinel is simple enough, and it has an opening up sprite to signify giving you stuff.
go with that.

The problem is that I need it because Assassin 2015 doesn't run on DOSBox, or systems beyond Windows 98, so it is necessary to obtain a virtual machine if possible. I need internet so I can transfer the games files over to the virtual machine or be able to redownload the files from the internet so I can use them in the virtual machine. I may retry again with Windows 98, but certainly not anytime soon.

Please answer my many questions, how did you obtain Bad Toys on it? How did you set up internet or share the files?

You can just have VirtualBox use a host drive, what I do with Windows 98 is I mount the images with Daemon and have VirtualBox use that drive.

And a roundabout way of bringing files into it (or taking from it) is if you hook up the Win95/98 hdd to a WinXP or beyond as a secondary hdd and have that setup with the network folder thing.

I've never setup internet on my Win98 VM.

Picture tutorial please. Assassin 2015 isn't a disc image and cannot be mounted via Daemon. I might try creating a cd image out of the folder however, may make things a little easier.

Better yet, I'll just go and upload the image for you, just need to compress'n'split to multi-archive format.

Hmmm I remember there was a really cool mod for Doom 1.
Alien Doom or something like that.
All enemieswere turned into some kind of alien and also the weapons were turned into Alien (2?) weapons.

Are you asking me to upload the files? I could do that, but I would need to use HJSplit. Perhaps it would be more convenient to get it from the source site?

http://firstpersonshooters.net/Games/Assassin%202015/

I don't remember if this is the site I downloaded it from, but it really shouldn't matter because I don't even know if the files I have work. I would very much appreciate your help! Just to ensure I read that correctly, you said you would upload Windows 98 and VirtualBox with written, thorough instructions to get it up and running in the form of a GAMESETUP.txt file, correct? I read what I want to hear, and believe me, I really want to hear that.

Right now, I am working on Wave One of the shooters, getting Amiga games as I lazily type. I only have 8 games for Wave One (1990 and earlier first person shooters/games that revolutionized shooters) and feel like I am severely lacking.
Academy
Xenocide
Corporation
Castle Master
WaxWorks
Duck Hunt
Hovertank +
Cybercon 3

Please, if you can think of any other games you would like to see in the torrent, lay down a title and I will attempt to retrieve it.

No I was meaning I could upload a disc image of it, 20min left on the last file as I make this post.

And well I didn't mean that I'd upload Win98 VM, but I suppose I could go about making one if you want. (or try to)

Oh, cd image file is fine too! Thanks! I don't want to inconvenience you too much .

I am adding about 13 Amiga games but don't worry, they were all in one torrent, shouldn't increase torrent wait period too much. Still need Wave One games though. These were all made in 1995-6. Still setting up the Amiga emulator, should work in no time. Got the kickstart roms needed and more.
