Though I'm glad that Sakura Wars finally got a translation patch, I can't say I'm a fan of the focus on the VN/dating aspect. Seems like the SRPG combat is more of an afterthought tacked on than an actual central part of the game. But still, I hope the rest of the series gets translated (more hopeful that the roguelike on the DS gets a translation than the actual mainline games, honestly)

Agree, started playing when the translation came out, it's charming and all but it's more VN than game and not even a good VN imo.
What pissed me off the most was that you have to choose the girl you go for too early in the game when you literally don't even know them yet.

It especially upset me because SRPGs are probably my favorite subgenre of RPGs. I was hyped for years at the thought of playing Sakura Wars, then it finally gets translated, and it's not a proper SRPG

It was also released for PC around the same time. The game was heavily advertised during the commercial breaks of Evangelion back then. It was pretty effective as it did sell very well on Saturn but these days they sit in cheap junk bins for real cheap.

I've actually been playing through it on my Saturn. Really enjoyable, especially the characters and story so far. I had just finished playing the PS4 one, and honestly the saturn game is much more fun. I hope that translations for 2,3,4 happen one day, but by then I'll probably have learned Japanese anyways.

>shitty story (that haunted mansion chapter omg what a fucking drag)
>dull MC who could only appeal to dorks without personality
>the fucking unsufferable loli
>tactical rpg aspect is extremely barebones

That game was quite a disappointment. I've only liked the music and the chara design.

Not only that, it's also a mediocre VN. Girls just instantly want in on your cock and the answers are all too obvious.

Who needs an unofficial English fan translation for Saturn, when you can play the officially licensed 2006 PC release fully translated to Russian!

Working on it. With my sub-par diet and exercise habits due to soul crushing work, death is closer every day.

No idea, I wasn't the only one with a VCR back then. Unfortunately I had been convinced to throw out the VHS tapes due to a move. Tossed out some great old computers and the first two years of Nintendo Power as well which were regrets. Some of the commercials have been preserved on youtube at least. You never know, with some searching, even in the deep corners of the internet some things may be archived like this old VHS classic which I found funny back then called Ranma 1/3 on Bitchute, shame the audio volume is ruined: https://www.bitchute.com/video/sXk7jANrhJOf/
