I don't know if I'd go this far, but it's definitely sad the Dreamcast died like it did. Like the Saturn, it had a more arcade-forward library than its competitors, which differentiates it in retrospect, but perhaps didn't win over enough people at the time. I have to wonder what we would have seen from it if it could have been kept on the market longer and sold a bit better. Would it have gotten an add-on? A redesigned controller with a second analog stick?

Sega dumped a bunch of games on the other consoles after it went third party, and I wonder how Gunvalkyrie and Panzer Dragoon Orta would have fared on the Dreamcast. As for the industry itself, the value of the Xbox and Gamecube in particular would have been weakened by Sega staying 1st party, I think, and then there's the hardware limitations to consider: no 2nd analog stick, lack of storage on GD-ROMs vis-à-vis DVDs, and so on.
