Pressure sensitive buttons in that gen were weird. Probably led to the mushy d-pad. I didn't even know until recently that OG Xbox controllers had them too. Did any Xbox game use them other than MGS2?

Holy shit I got a Switch for my wife and those dogshit joycons broke like two months into owning it, and it’s not like we were throwing the damn things across the room. I remember I’d just throw cheap mad katz controllers in the bottom of a box for months at a time and took zero care of them and they still never broke, even when my brother would rage at Xbox Live and throw them across the room.

And it’s $70 to replace this cheap shit that feels worse than the knockoff chink consoles they sell at mall kiosks.

DualShock 2: Really fucking awful d-pad like all PS controllers. Good fucking luck playing any fighters with that piece of shit, And awful analog stick placement. Literally just tacked on sticks because it was the only space left on the original PSX controller and they were too pussy to design something new that did it properly. Sony have never made anything close to even just a pretty good controller.

maybe you like the placement of the grafted on analog sticks, but i don't. for me it wasnt until the DS4 that their placement felt natural.

i'll take a dualshock 1, (or better yet dual analog: longer grips, concave sticks, flightstick mode) because at least that doesn't have a weird squishy set of face buttons.

Formula being copying a SNES controller and adding extra shoulder buttons. Analogue sticks were then added after the N64 popularised the analogue stick.
Then rumble came after that was popularised by the N64 (now industry standard btw). Which Sony then got pissy about having to pay royalties to Nintendo for their own invention.

Not to mention Sixaxis and the move (after they openly mocked motion controls) and the PS4 touchpad...
