This was posted in a thread when this board was just made, but I feel like it deserves a thread.

This series is a slightly hunchbacked Russian man who reviews pirated Dendy games, and generally flips shit about them. When you watch them, make sure to enable English translated subtitles; he has a lot of good things to say.

Don't be intimidated by the language and the length of the videos, they are completely worth it.

It's amazing the amount of crap ruskies had to go through, I only had a few pirate games with one of those adapters that had a ribbon to pull out of the nes and it was confusing as fuck to choose games due to the weird names and labels, I can't even start to imagine a whole market based on pirate games.

My favorite moment in Kinaman videos is when the Dendy TV host dissed Joe & Mac for being a ripoff of Mario 16.

Dendy was a general term for video games. Master System clones were dendy's, other clones were dendys, people would just say "hey Vladimir wanna play some dendy at home?"

Most Famiclones played dendy games (which were just 50 pin famicom games) so dendy games work on all

Another Russian dendyfag here.

I remember being super-psyched for Darkwing Duck 2. It turned out to be Super C with DW from the Capcom game hacked into it as the playable character.

Even as an 8 year old, I basically was, like, wtf this is no good at all. We went back, returned the cartridge and got "Demoniada" instead - the localized original Castlevania. I still think that "Demoniada" was a decent approximation of the word.

The male equivalent is a guy wearing skintight shorts, a wife beater that says "WELCOME TO THE GUN SHOW", flexing his muscles to the camera, and then photoshopping his muscles bigger and all the blemishes from his face.
Nobody with self-respect does this shit, and nobody who wants to be taken seriously as a professional (unless you're a porn star) sexualizes themselves in a portrait. In one of the first kitchen vids,Kinaman and his buddy Coulthard beat the pirate version of Ninja Gaiden, which has all the power-ups removed except for one, which makes the game freeze as soon as you take it.

So just to reiterate:

He beat Ninja Gaiden without using any power-ups whatsoever. I just sat there with my mouth agape the whole time. This fucker is hardcore.

I had a few while I was in Greece. Mine was a Super Megason, shaped like an SNES. I had an NES as well, but the pin connectors failed, so I was desperate to find some of my favorite NES games for it, but instead made some new favorites. If they had an NES to FC converter, that would've been awesome.

The NES is in my room and works as good as new now.

Early 90s. I think the famiclones appeared in Russian in around 1990, about the same time Sega moved it's business here. Dendy shit was adverticed on TV along with Sonic starting with 1991, and everyone moved on to MegaDrive soon after.

Then we were Sony country.

>"Demoniada" means "Demoned" or "Deviled" in Spanish if memory serves right
The suffix is not Russian, it's Greek. It means "story related to". Like Iliad. "a" on the end of Demoniada is a Russian feminine suffix.

So, the English equivalent would be "Demoniad" (Story about the demonic - as in Iliad etc.).

I'm gonna bump this thread just to say that everything (Except the stuff related to the Dendy/Steepler company) stated in Dendy chronicles happened in Argentina.
Everything.
I played Super Mario 6, 14, Pizza Pop Mario and Mc Mario like they were original games for my Famicom.
I was one of the only kids who luckily got an original version of the console (Not a "Polystation" or whatever clone), the model with the controls bound behind... in '92.
Hell I also have that exactly pirate cart with 64 games in 1 (The one with "Pipeline" in it) in my desk drawer.
In fact we always thought Super Mario Bros was actually Mario Bros 2 because the title in the list is just "Bros II." as you can see in pic related.
Also the Brick game is one of the most famous things ever here, I had like 3 of them.
So this is not a "Russia only" thing.

Why does it matter if someone has nostalgia for things that were popular before they were born? You can get nostalgia for things that are nothing like the things you have now. It is not trend riding unless they pretend to have been right around the time they came out, but when they get nostalgia admitting they were not born back when they were popular, it is not the trend riding you are accusing him to have. When played in my NES, the graphics appear as though the connection isn't good, when in reality it is. How the hell did they fuck up the programming this much? If they keep this up, Famiclones will become their own consoles, and have no relationship to the original Nintendo machines. Probably because SotN was a Natsume game, and Natsume briefly had Kyouhei Sada, a Konami sound programmer, make music for Natsume games. He lent them his sound driver, which explains why some Natsume games sound like Konami games.

The funny thing is that these so-called "extra worlds" are really just glitches caused by the game loading up garbage data. Same as the infamous "Minus World". It's even possible to play them on a regular cart by starting a game of Tennis, walking around a bit, then yanking the cart out, putting SMB in and hitting the reset button. Apparently the character position RAM address in Tennis is the same as the World number address in SMB, and if you don't actually power down the console, the RAM doesn't get properly reset. S\o the pirates didn't even really add anything, they just let you easily jump to "out of bounds" World numbers.

Sorry. Famiclones sometimes emulate sound accurately, but sometimes they don't. The most obvious way to test it would be to run SMB on them, and the mushroom power up will sound a lot more "bloopy" than usual.

Thanks for posting about this guy. I had never heard of him before, and I'm getting a kick out of these videos. I like that he has some new things to say that haven't really been covered before. The videos are pretty informative, and the guy's got some insightful comments too.

I was always aware that there was a lot of piracy in Russia, and I knew that other Finnfags would every now and then travel across the border to go buy cheap Russian pirate movies or clothes, instead of buying the expensive legal items that were sold around here. But before seeing these videos, I had never truly realised the full extent of the whole thing. Consumers genuinely mistaking pirates and romhacks as legally licensed games? Crazy art and game title confusion on the cartridge labels and in-game? An actual TV show spreading false information over which game's a ripoff and which one was genuine? Even pirated copies of pirate games? This stuff's insane, but also interesting and rather entertaining.

I wonder why the pirates were so determined to avoid showing Mario and Luigi in the label art of the Mario games, though.

love his videos, probably because here where i live we've got a very similar situation, but there was no "official" distribution as in russia by spencer (but still there were tv ads, so i guess famiclones were distributed by some shady company), and most of games actually came from post-ussr grounds.

yes and no. "pegasus" was common name for famiclones around here, but there was a metric shitton for other models, there was no "official" one like dendy dominated in russia.
pegasus (pic related) was the one officially distributed, which you could buy in toy stores and such. i had a clone of sega megadrive - same casing, same gamepads, same everything, except it only run famicom carts. parents bought it on a market for my 1st communion. excellent build quality, best famiclone i ever saw. my friend had a famiclone which had similar casing to original famicom. later were popular polystations and those extremely cheap and shitty black famiclones with blue power/reset buttons.

Inafune said in Megaman Official Complete Works that they had difficulty programming for the Genesis.

I started gaming as a Sega kid but never had a Saturn or Dreamcast (had N64 then PS2). I still find it sad that DC turned out the way it did. Personally I think they could have kept it going until 2008 and continued making games for it. All they did was stab people in the back right after killing it by porting DC exclusives to enemy consoles.

In addition to this guy, what are the worst kinds of people on /vr/ ?

>> No.744967

>>744953
Possibly, people who perceive a particular problem happening then proceed to complain about it at ten times the volume of the actual problem, therefore drawing undue attention to the relatively small problem and creating more of a problem overall. This issue is much worse on /v/, of course.

Hopefully, that will make at least a little sense and not specifically offend anyone. I don't lump frustration with this thread into that category, because this is a bizarre special case which can hopefully be dealt with here and now.

>people who perceive a particular problem happening then proceed to complain about it at ten times the volume of the actual problem
A few situations like that come to mind.
>collector vs. reseller
>physical vs. emulation
>SNES emulator A vs. SNES emulator B (often posted as flame bait)
>CRT vs. LCD
Can't we all just get along?
This board is still miles better than /v/.

Unless you, or someone else here are secretly that guy... the /co/ posts seem on the first glance like "let's stay over the bumplimit" posts, but because of spirasen's posting history, they seem like him. I don't know why he'd be taking part in spamming the thread though.

He has no life, and he wants to lull us into a false sense of security so that he can come back and delete shit again. It's the saddest thing I've ever seen. A whole month of this nonsense.

It's a shame. The topic of these bootleg games is rather interesting, and it's been neat to hear how different experiences people across the world had with these games back then. But now everyone's gonna associate the topic with what happened in this thread.

Kinda sad that he can't into quick reply without quoting. He doesn't know this site at all. Worst OP ever.

The archive's a little glitchy. It looks like more false negatives than false positives for deletions, so about 400 deletions and 1200+ total posts sounds about right. The thread is definitely still here.

I want to post more pictures! Maybe OP has given up.

This thread shall die today, the last day of May.

I'm dubbing this thread Dendy Mayhem. We must never forget, lest it happen again.

Post the archive early in future Dendy threads so that all may remain vigilant.
