Doom already did the whole schtick Quake 1 did but with polygons, Quake 2 was a weaker sequel derided by fans for being too cringe and sci-fi, and Quake 3 was a multiplayer thing later on. The only thing Quake series did to have lasting impact was the arena FPS which that in and of itself became obscure tryhard boomer shit that died off years ago due to elitism and posers.

So yeah damn without even mentioning Mario 64 being the first true good 3D game Quake was a nothingburger. Good bait thread though, I'll give this (You) as a prize.

Unpopular opinion: SM64 and OOT are overrated games and are outshined by newer games in their series.

SM64 in particular is boring as shit compared to one of the best games of all time, SMB3. Even SMW is more fun. SM64 had a serious lack of levels, boring collectathon gameplay, bad camera, soulless art style and bad graphics, decent music at best, etc. Most Nintendo fans I've encountered on /v/ over the years being rabid N64/GC fanboys are dumb zoomers blinded with nostalgia and bad taste.

Duke nukem 3d assraped Quake 1, Which led to Quake 2 who became one of the biggest Hits of the 90's, one of the biggest modded games at the time, and one of the best sold games for PC, and then Q3A came out and people went nuts with bots, though release was ass due to Shitty Netcode who Q2 had it better for a few months.

There are many magazines or old posts at the archives from that time showing how people wasn't keen on Quake 1 outside stuff like Machinima or TF, and how Duke 3d got better.
Even Romero recently and others who worked on it stated how crap it was to the point that there were even tons of copies that weren't sold at places like gamestop and so on, said copies who you still find sealed on ebay and etc.

The only games who beat Quake 2 on the run for a few months before Q3A was out was Battlezone 98 and Unreal 1, which bot got buried when Quake 3 Arena came out for PC and dreamcast, and both had crossplay MP
