So, now that there is a fully functional, reverse engineered source code for GTA 3 and Vice City, what would be on your wishlist for changes and additions? Will this kick off a DOOM-esque source mod community? What machines do you want to see III and VC ported to?

Framerate isn't always an easy thing to do. In many games, even modern ones, several things are tied to the framerate to where increasing it will cause problems that can range from oddities like REmake2's knife getting buffed to rendering the game utterly unwinnable.

Vice City is from an era where tying things to the framerate for simplicity was the standard.

I don't think so, presumably each component of the engine synchronises itself by the FPS independently, rather than co-operatively synchronises. That's to say each component only cares about counting the FPS and just hopes other components are as well.

>JUST WEED BRO

William Friedkin's gritty police drama portrays two tough New York City cops trying to intercept a huge heroin shipment coming from France. An interesting contrast is established between 'Popeye' Doyle, a short-tempered alcoholic bigot who is nevertheless a hard-working and dedicated police officer, and his nemesis Alain Charnier, a suave and urbane gentleman who is nevertheless a criminal and one of the largest drug suppliers of pure heroin to North America. During the surveillance and eventual bust, Friedkin provides one of the most gripping and memorable car chase sequences ever filmed.

As per its own to-do list - uncoupling the physics from framerate so you aren't stuck at 30fps. The basis of the project would also allow LCS and VCS to be ported to PC which again is not simply a recompilation of GTA III.

I just played though GTA 3 in 60fps without noticing any issues. Some dialog is cut short, but even then it's only like 1/10th of a second so I didn't even notice it until someone pointed it out. I'd highly recommend playing in 60fps.
As for LCS and VCS ports, would that be possible? I thought that Renderware is only the graphics library and it's not possible to make a port for pc unless you create a complete engine reimplantation.

Probably. Dropping the framerate technically gives them more time to calculate things before having to draw a frame. Why do you think they had that weird smear effect in the older games? It wasn't just to hide the low framerate. It was to make up for the framerate difference.

I mean, the (seemingly) recommended map editor for III/VC hasn't been updated in 15 years and isn't really a map editor. It's an object arranger. You don't create terrain with brushes, like with Quake. Your entire terrain consists out of objects. You use a 3d moddeling program for it. Stuff like objectives or AI paths are done with CLEO or something?

It looks so rickety.

>You play as Cheech(Or Eddy) and your roommate best friend is Chong(George)
>Sell weed with your bro, everything's cash
>big drug dealer in LS wants you to sell coke after he gets too much to sell on his own, despite your hesitance but he's been good to you so you do a few missions for him here and there unloading your "share" and paying him to fuck off
>go to disco to get some wool, make some cash maybe if some people do want some weed
>burn it down by accident, or set up mission is called Disco Inferno
>big drug dealer owns it and gets upset, and comes on a rampage looking for you
>you have to hide out in the country, George smuggles you to some Farmhouse and tells you he'll be in touch in a week to fill you in
>Farmhouse acts as a base/safehouse as you make new contacts around the country, meet new characters and maybe one or two fanservicey ones
>Meet Phil and he takes a liking to you, asking you to do Boomshine runs and shit like that to earn some decent dosh
>one day while sleeping you're met with a shotgun to the face, it's a country girl with some muscle on her named Large Marge or some fucking punny name Anna Mae
>explain you mean no harm and pay her to stick around
>friendship ensues where you save eachother's asses here and there
>George shows up here and there to help you out with little things and helps you find a motel room to live in for a while
>eventually get run out to Liberty City, just portland though, game suddenly becomes Taxi Driver or Goodfellas
I know it needs work but I have autistically thought about this.
