What /vg/ cut content do you wish could have made it into the final game? What cut content are you glad didn't make it?
Pic related is Skakmat from Daggerfall. He almost made it into the game, and still exists in the lore, but his model was lost during a server change at Bethesda and they decided not to reimplement him. A shame, because fighting with, or even seeing a proper dragon would have been awesome in this game. All that remains is his portrait, textures and his valiant contribution to Battle of Cryngaine Field.

After Fallout 2's mind-numbingly boring cut content got "restored" I just decided to trust that devs cut garbage sometimes for a good reason and not all of it is a tragic case of a publisher deadline chasing downtrodden level designers with an axe at studios.

between resident evil 2, sonic 2 and ocarina of time im torn.

i liked the settings (cold gritty police station/big factory. final game just redoes the mansion grandeur), ideas (realistic tearing of clothing/armor system/option to save partner like re1) and progression(bigger cast/going through the final section twice after destroyed) of 1.5 but with the final games quality polish and replay value(A B scenarios).

sonic 2 was gonna have a more involved star wars-like death egg, more level interaction like pulling objects/slamming into walls and the extensive time travel like CD but more story driven. also hidden palace? cmon yuji did we REALLY need hill top?

but unlike the other 2 i didnt LOVE the retail version of ocarina. it doesnt have the benefit of tons of side quests like its sequel leaving its flaws of an empty yet enclosed claustrophobic world more noticable. besides the temples it just wasnt that enjoyable. but with this zelda then you go into 2 subcatagories of the overhauling prototypes and the expanded final game with the majora's mask content on the dd.

Lmao. Hidden Palace was always really tantalising to me. I know we got it in the remake, but it's not 100% the same as the cut version would have been.
Have you seen the old Hyrule Fields from OoT? The first one has all this rough terrain, hills and all that. Would have been fun to ride a horse around. The final version sucks compared to both beta versions.

never played the sonic thing. i didnt have a smart phone at the time it came out so i waited for a console port like what happend with cd. the waiting eventually lead to resentment since it never fucking happened wtf.
i looked into the gigaleak and space world versions. its so fustrating that we have like 60% of all the environments, each since we dont have the appropriate engine, music and models. its super selfish but i wish we had a build of each of the proto eras so we could stitch together all the best elements into a fan ultimate version. the old 3d town, that field, extra magic etc.

Iirc they weren't given enough time to work on it. The released game is the most mid level shit ever, but maybe if it were finished it could have been decent. It was better than their previous attempt to make a Crash game at least.

Another cut dragon was this crazy think from Sonic Adventure. Apparently it's in some builds, but just turned invisible. There's a cut voice line from Tikal telling the players how to fight the ting. It has two functions which can still be seen: its flying animation and breathing fire.
Its mouth texture is in the final game as the door on the elevator leading to Eggman's base in the Mystic Ruins.

in re1.5 every enemy had an additional feature that was removed from the final like a dog grapple attack or zombies being able to climb up and down platforms.
in the police station theres a shutter you can open and close in real time. if you time it right you can close it directly on top of a zombie, severing them in half.

the concept was changed to window shutters in 2 but it wasnt a real time thing. code veronica used the hallway shutter idea but it too is just a 1 time thing. you can test it out yourself with the 1.5 proto we have it works fine but i think they can grab you through the shutter if your running up against it.

On this note, I've been playing KOTOR 1 with the restoration patch and all that I've found that it adds significantly were more animals on Dantooine. It's supposed to add a whole cut stage or something, too. Pretty underwhelming.
Makes you wonder why they cut the Iriaz in the first place, though. Makes the planet a little more lively.

the 2 stories i remember hearing about the island was that you were required to destroy the sentry gun because it would shoot down your plane when escaping since it has perfect view of runways direction. rare didnt like the idea of a mission that would span across multiple levels.
the other idea was that you needed to retrieve a briefcase in that tower which had the piton gun required to open the floor at the bottom of the bungee jump to get into facility. the briefing explains use of the piton gun and its an unfinished item in the games code. theres a pedestal at the bottom of the dam that cannot be seen otherwise and it even has textures under a bolted floor which is impossible to see without clipping.

Why would a zombie changing its z-coordinate "tank performance"? The dog grapple I can see being removed for balance reasons and there are very few spots in RE2 you have zombies and climbable things at the same time in the first place.

i'd loved to see the cut content from gothic 1. i heard a lot of stuff, not all of which i think is true, but e.g. more quests, higher guild progression (like becoming a guru), the bandit camp near the beginning having more interaction, a stone statue in the swamp, an arena quest, more weapons...
wouldn't have a significant impact on the game overall, i jst love the game and would enoy it if there was more in it
