Parents got me a ps2 preordered, wasn't available until 5 days after release. Brother got an xbox after he got old enough to start working. I bought a gamecube after dipping into birthday money saved over the years. I bought the gamecube literally only to play Sonic Mega Collection, which ended up getting ported to PS2 with more stuff.

It was worth it though, loved it and also got the Gameboy Player free with it which was my first gameboy device.

PS2 I didnt even get until late 2000s, like whenever the slim silver model came out, that was my first PS2. Was great for me, because in like 2008-2012 I was getting SO many PS2 games for like 3 for 10 at a local pawnshop. Good shit like RPGs, all the main big first party games, weird shit like Gitaroo Man and God Hand. Was fucking amazing, got like 300+ titles when people were basically throwing them away. That was also when 5Below was getting excess unsold stock of good shit also, like Chulip and a bunch of the SNK compilations. In like 2-3 years I went from owning no PS2 stuff to like having every worthwhile game and then some for the console released in English.
