hahahahaaaaaaaaa Fonzie is broke dude, he had to borrow money from his parents to finish Paprium.
Even now he can't ship the remaining preorders because he doesn't have the money to get them made.
The only thing we can hope for is that Fonzie manages to gather the funds necesarry to ship the remaining orders and for him to then realize that his dream of being a retro dev is a failure.

DO NOT PREORDER HIS NEW GAME WITH THE DOLPHIN, ITS GONNA TAKE A DECADE TO GET MADE AND LIKE PAPRIUM IT WONT BE FUN TO PLAY!
Do not fund this man any further, this needs to stop.

Normie collectors are retards, they don't care if a game takes a decade to finish if they're going to own an "exclusive" game. Just look at NG:Dev Team that never failed to take YEARS to ship every preorder and reprint every single time since their inception, but people still throw in half a thousand euros to be able to reserve a cart.

New to all this Fonzi fuckery, 2 questions:
- What was Project M from Watermelon? Looks like an interesting SNES game, but it's hard to find info. (For what it's worth, no part of me expects it to be released, just curious)
- What's this new dolphin game I've seen referenced? Are there any screenshots, or just plans?

>Project M
I believe you mean Project N? It was a top-down Zelda-like game, with a dog AI companion. Fonzie CAN NOT program for the SNES (can he even program for the genny?), so programming was done by some german dude they hired and didn't pay, so he eventually quit after getting tired of Fonzies fuckery. Fonzie's role was design and overseeing the project. Since Fonzie cannot finish the code himself, it will NEVER be released. And all gems(pre-orders) pumped into the project from customers will never be repayed.

There's a link to the Dolphin game at the Paprium website. It's another Beatem'up. That's all we know. I believe it won't get released either. Fonzie is in too deep shit to get out of it this time.

Mega SG isn’t emulating the special chips in the Paprium cart. Which is what a flash cart would need to do. The flash cart devs either won’t take the time to emulate the special chips or will protect Watermelon out of some form of loyalty.

Nobody thought some of the SNES special chips would get emulated on flash carts, but they eventually did. Took years however.

>can't even explain why.

Well, it would be obvious to anyone understanding what makes paprium cartridge kinda special.
The game relies on an ARM MCU that runs a custom program in its internal ROM to decompress sprite data, produce extra audio channels and communicate with a FPGA. Problem is that internal ROM of STM32 MCUs is protected and there is no known method to dump it.

So, even if:
- the full (game) ROM was dumped (which seems much more complicated than Pier Solar, which was already quite well protected and lasted 2 years before getting dumped)
and
- flashcarts were embarking a compatible MCU (which is not
the case with current flashcarts)
and
- flashcarts replicated Paprium FPGA mapper (which has yet to be reverse engineered) on their FPGA,

the game would still be unplayable because the MCU custom program is not accessible so there is no way to replicate what it does.

So yes, it is highly doubtable that this shit get ever emulated or playable on a flashcart, sorry to crush your dreams.

Man, too bad the gameplay looks boring as fuck.
With all of that explained, the $200+ asking price seems a liiittle more reasonable, since it seems like it'll be un-emulatable for a while, which admittedly is kind of impressive.

The art is gorgeous, the ambition is admirable, but the fact that they didn't develop an emulatable rom in the process to sell for cheaper than 2 hundie makes me root for everyone trying to dump it that much more.

I'd be stoked about this game if it didn't feel so.. elitist?

>> No.7378217

>>7378131
Yeah as someone who actually owns the game, the elitist part of this pisses me off. I like the game, sure it's not perfect, but I think it's fun and I wish it would be available to a larger audience. It's just an old game console, the whole community should be able to enjoy new games for it. If Fonzie had a lick of sensibility he would sell the ROM for $20 and would likely sell enough to pay off his debts. I also think people would be a lot more forgiving of its flaws if the game were accessible and not being promoted like the end-all-be-all-greatest-fucking-MD-game-ever (that only the "true believers" are allowed to play).

>> No.7378303

>>7378217
The reason why Fonzie don't have a ROM available is because hes unable to produce one. He couldn't get his code running on PC, which made testing hard, explains why its barebones and not tested. 80mbit cart.. yeah, highly doubt it's decompressing anything. I can't find any evidence to support your claim. it could bank in data that's compressed (this was common) but highly doubt it's doing any such work. where's the proof? i can't find it.

fonzie claims: "48Khz x 24 channels (FM, PSG, DT128M16VA1LT)." - not only does this chip not exist (you can't find any information about it), the audio is far lower than 48khz that it apparently supports, I'd wager my house that the most of ROM space is occupied with low quality uncompressed 8-bit samples (check youtube for an example of this low quality cancer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0H9v7ALCP8 )
so.. is the custom chip dealing with sprites, audio or.. maybe.. the custom FPGA is actually emulating the FM synth chip so it can mix the multichannel samples? if so, that would be fucking hilarious, but I doubt it. there are software routines for the megadrive that have no problem mixing multiple channels of digital audio. we will learn soon enough about what is going on.

It was confirmed by Kevtris (Analog Mega SG dev) who analyzed what the game was doing and why there was graphical glitches on MSG. It appears that there is a 2MB SDRAM chip on the cart and the games does VDP DMA to it to get graphic data, which means those data do not come straight from ROM but are decompressed from ROM to on-board RAM on the fly (this is where the 80Mb comes from btw, 64Mb flash ROM + 16Mb RAM for decompressed data)

>.. the custom FPGA is actually emulating the FM synth chip so it can mix...

Absolutely not. Extra audio channels are generated and mixed by the STM32 ARM MCU which has its own DAC and send stereo audio through the two audio inputs available on the cart port . It is sampled audio, not FM.

>that has stopped zero arcade machines in the past from being emulated or supported. care to try again?
Maybe. Well, we will see. My guess is that there are bigger chances to get it emulated at high level with sound & graphic packs, like with earlier Star Ocean SNES emulation attempts.

>but you might just be retarded.
That was totally uncalled for, I'm just being realistic and explaining why, no need to be agressive like a 12-years old child because someone says something that doesn't fit with your expectations. Btw, I am not the only retard saying this, both Kevtris and Neodev (Mega SD flashcart dev also known as Elsemi, i.e a wellknown arcade emulator developer) both said the same thing. I would love to be proved wrong, that said.

you can clearly hear it has sampled audio. the anon wondered about if it was possible that the FM chip was emulated but.. doubted it.

I do thoroughly enjoy how you glossed over the part of how the ROM space is (most likely) wasted by uncompressed sample data. after looking at videos of the game, I am struggling to work out where these sprites are? are they hiding in plain sight? do you need 80mbit to display the same sprites multiple times on one screen? because I see a lot of reuse throughout the game.

>both Kevtris and Neodev (Mega SD flashcart dev also known as Elsemi, i.e a wellknown arcade emulator developer) both said the same thing

Quick and dirty translation.

"Went today to Game Them All, a shop in Voltaire Street, Paris, the official reseller for WaterMelon products. One of the shop owners told me he was the one to warn Fonzie about a compatibility problem with some megadrive models. He had it happen to his own megadrive. Since the game detects whether it's running on a true sega megadrive, by testing whether all of the chips are present... some sega megadrive models have missing/additional chips, and Fonzie didn't test his anti-piracy program on ALL sega megadrive models, so we have this "bug", lol.

He also told me that the next game AM96 will be an action platformer, Shinobi-like, and not a beat em up like the secret official page implies, and that page no longer points out a release date of "Late 2021" but now it is "Late 2021 or Early 2022". It seems like the beginning of a LONG WAIT for everyone who preordered this new game lol."

Totally possible due to that "Megawire" port, but I wouldn't count on Fonzie actually releasing the device to utilize it and ALSO actually releasing DLC. At most he might sell the Megawire and never get around to releasing anything that uses it. Plus, who the fuck wants to buy an additional device to have the privilege of buying DLC for the game. Worse, I suspect that the DLC would just be an "unlock key" due to the low potential bitrate via the Megawire port. There's evidence via the sound test that there is a lot of content on the cartridge that is either so well hidden nobody can find it, or is locked behind a DLC wall (there are 11 out of 63 songs that nobody has unlocked)

The Game Genie fails to work for the same reason that the Mega SG doesn't without workarounds (and also why dumping the traditional way doesn't work) -- if the cartridge detects it has power but has not been properly booted up within a specific timeframe it only maps the ROM for the troll minigame. So using a GG means that only the troll game works. We would need a way to apply GG codes from cold boot, and we would probably be blindly poking around anyway because we can't analyze the memory. I dunno, I thought it was fun enough. SoR2 is still better, but I have enjoyed my time with Paprium. Although, if we can get a ROM dumped, we can theoretically rip all the graphics and code a better version for PC or something

Don't listen to the assholes. There will be a rom. When? We don't know... Pier Solar was playable after two years. I don't think it will take another two years, but it will take a while.

If this ever gets dumped, how the fuck could it even work? It looks too good for a 16-bit game, like the cartridge has its own hardware acceleration, and the music isn't even produced by the Mega Drive right? It's a completely unique cart.

Can't imagine it working on real hardware without the same cartridge hardware, and emulators almost certainly couldn't run it either without an update, but first they'd need to know exactly how the cart hardware functions.

For me, graphics and music may be the only good things in Paprium. In fact, I think graphics and dessign are amazing. Animation and gameplay seem broken.

I think it's possible a similar method might work, actually. I think it could be using the same method, just that this time the mirrored ROM bank actually has playable code in it. Looking at the minigame in a hex editor it does have the text from the main game's copyright screen, so maybe there's a jump somewhere. Fuck, I should have studied asm...

Uhhh hi guys, this is Fonzie. I know you've been waiting 8 years. I know you expected the features I promised. I know you expected better gameplay. I know you expected better animations. I know you still havn't recieved your copy. I know we're not able to give refunds... But please. Buy the Limited EU version again for 400€! It's BARGAIN. Some of the money will be used for producing the remaining 70% of preorders. The rest will go into my wallet, used mostly for gay hookers and coke.
Also please buy my upcoming dolphin penis game and uhh ... ShoWtImE
