What are the best retro shows that discuss and present older games in an informative and entertaining way?

They don't have to be popular but they need to be something a bit better than just Let's Play videos.

First pick, Rerez from Retroware.

Super Gaming Bros on YouTube did a great review of the metroid and 2D sonic games.

I also like the world of long plays. There's no commentary but it's a great way to watch a game that you don't want to spend the time playing through or that you can't beat.

I like Mark a lot too, but I don't necessarily think he's without fault either

I also think he's a lot more "causal" about video games then a lot of people want/expect him to be. And I don't mean that in a negative way btw

Mark is just a chill dudebro who likes beer, vectrex, and cosmic carnage in that order

It's a good idea, but without a voice over it's just a really long let's play with random facts. You should get someone to voice over an episode and make it shorter.

Like getting Ben from PortsCentre or Shane from Rerez if you couldn't do it yourself.

>> No.741376

>>741365
Every video out there does voice overs, and honestly, I find it somewhat obnoxious. I enjoy the original music/sfx et cetera more than some random dude trying to be funny.

Maybe I'm the only one who feels that way.

>> No.741415

I don't mind silent people but a silent video is different. The voice over guy doesn't have to crack jokes! Just a simple voice over and a shorter video to get through stuff a little better.,

>> No.741479

I usually watch these kind of videos to experience a game that I never played and am either too busy/lazy/unmotivated to take the time to learn it and play it for myself. My weekend morning ritual is to fire up a longplay while enjoying my coffee and making the kids breakfast.

A chopped up video with narrations seams to defeat the purpose IMHO.

>> No.741549

>>741479

Reviews and videos like that document a game. They explain game concepts and ideas in a short amount of time. There is a difference between watching a 30 minute video of game play (which is just fucking strange if you find that interesting at all) and a properly produced piece of content.

>> No.741614

>>741549
Well, it looks like we're discussing totally different things.
You are more interested in highlight reals. Quick and to the point.
Gameplay/longplay/versus/lets play videos are a different ball of wax, and granted, they're not for everyone.

Usually not hours, more like 30-45 minutes for the ones I watch, but I know some do run for hours.

I guess it's comparable to sports. I enjoy watching live games, but not televised events. Primarily because I can do without someone gabbing on about what I just saw. I'm seeing it, I can understand what I just saw. I don't need someone explaining what I already know to enjoy it.
